| [Anveo] Difficulty porting number So I decided to port my number to Anveo back on the 26th of September and being as it has been a while I contacted them to see what was going on and received this reply
said by Anveo : It seems your current provider, Bruce Telecom stopped responding to the follow ups. We are trying our best to reach their representatives and get updates regarding the agreement with them; however we can not confirm when this will be implemented as they are not collaborating. I will inform you if something will changing.
Is there anything I can do on my end to help this along? |

| If you were in the USA, one thing would be to file an FCC complaint.
But you are in Canada, and the CRTC is a little more genteel.
The thing is:
a) Bruce Telecom is a small regional company. b) Basically, your neighbors run it. c) They are owned by your local municipal government....
Bruce Telecom is a public utility that is wholly owned by the Corporation of the Municipality of Kincardine.
So before even trying to do anything else, why not talk to them. It's rural Ontario, right, everyone should be nice.
Are you far from Tiverton? Go see them at their headquarters....

| I'm far enough away - I fail to see how being a small provider has anything to do with it, usually dealing with small providers means better as opposed to worse service. I've already fired off an email yesterday to their service department so I'll see how that goes.
I should also add that being as they're owned by the local .gov means that Bruce Telecom service is usually approximate to dealing with your local DMV. |

Many very small (and often friendly ) local phone companies in the US that are rendering rural telephone service have been formally designated as Eligible Telecommunications Carriers by the FCC. This designation immunizes them against requests to port away their numbers. These small companies do not have to allow outward ports!
But ... maybe if you ask nicely and send a box of chocolates with a bouquet of roses ... |

 | Are there still small ILEC's in the U.S. that refuse to allow outgoing ports? |

| reply to N9MD True, my point was that just because their a small provider that that shouldn't mean dealing with them is different than with the incumbents, at least here in Canada.
It's a sad day for everyone when someone figures out how to give worse service than Bell Canada. |

For example, consider Lost River, West Virginia:
The carriers serving the local rate center are limited to the local phone company (Hardy Telecom) and one wireless company (Sprint). »www.telcodata.us/search-area-cod···state=WV |

That was my point. One would expect that it would be far easier to get hold of the right person at Bruce as compared to BellCanada or Rogers etc....
Sorry to hear otherwise. |

 | reply to von Monster Yeah, it was good advice. If I don't get anywhere with them in the next bit I think the next step is a complaint with the CCTS?

| Yes, as long as you contact Bruce Telecom first (as you said).
CCTS is a non-governmental group, but Bruce does participate. It will get their attention.
[If] it turns out to be a CRTC matter instead, CCTS would tell you.
I would guess that this just hasn't come up very often for Bruce.... |

Rural carrier porting restrictions disappeared in 2011 said by josephf:Are there still small ILEC's in the U.S. that refuse to allow outgoing ports? Apparently the answer is now NO (as of 2011)!
»Re: Rural number porting situation, is geographic LNP live? This reference is a general treatise on porting. However, the part about Rural Carriers (in the US) appears to be outdated, given the info Ive provided below.
»www.wisbar.org/AM/Template.cfm?S···ID=23757 This is from the 1996 FCC regulations, allowing a Rural Carrier to block an outbound porting request, specifically stating under Section III The Rural Telephone Company Exemption: Section 251(f)(1) of the 1996 Act (Appendix A) automatically exempts rural telephone companies from the requirements of Section 251(c) ("Additional Obligations of ILECs") until:
. followed by mention of the exceptions to this exception. This info is outdated
see the next paragraph.
»www.fcc.gov/guides/portability-k···roviders This reference reports that the rural telephone company porting restrictions were lifted by 2011 (which I was not aware of). So there appears to be no current Rural Carrier protection in the US
except for other issues such as DID compatible Rate Centers, Switches, etc. In the OPs case the question arises as to whether any VoIP provider uses a CLEC (or other DID providing entity) with a presence in his/her local Rate Center.

Re: [Anveo] Difficulty porting number sorry but you are getting the run around from Anveo
yes, Anveo
there is a 3rd party that takes numbers from one carrier and gives them to another - it can even happen very rapidly
someone at Anveo is jerking you around
they do not contact present carrier themselves to port your number
utter rubbish
try porting with another carrier and you will see
sorry if this is bad news to you |

yes, Anveo I don't know if the evidence supports that statement.
And it's in Anveo's interest to bring him on sooner rather than later.
said by IPfaxer:there is a 3rd party that takes numbers from one carrier and gives them to another - it can even happen very rapidly
There is more than one such intermediary offering such services.
Sometimes it can happen rapidly, sometimes it can take weeks.
Especially as this is a rather rural Canadian port from a rather small local provider.
said by IPfaxer:they do not contact present carrier themselves to port your number
Everyone knows that. It would be Anveo's CLEC, just as if I port a number to CallCentric it's being done by CallCentric's CLEC. But it's not needed to spell that out literally. |
|
 | reply to von Monster Just as an update it's been two days since I submitted a ticket with Bruce Telecom and I still haven't heard back from them.
If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I guess I'll have to file a complaint with the CCTS. |
|

---------------
And the fact that Bruce Telecom won't respond to you, tends to confirm what Anveo's carrier has been experiencing. |
|
 | Which is sad, as every time I've needed to contact them for a tech to show up they've been great. It's just the billing and apparently the number porting out side of the business that's useless. |
