Scroogled! Microsoft Gets Aggressive in Fight Against Google
... Microsoft has apparently taken off the gloves in its fight against Google. And if you thought Gmail Man hit a little too close to home, wait until you see Scroogled. This new Microsoft web site says that all of Googles shopping results are now paid ads.
In the beginning, Google preached, Don't be evil, but that changed on May 31, 2012. The Scroogled web site notes. That's when Google Shopping announced a new initiative. Simply put, all of their shopping results are now paid ads.
In their under-the-radar announcement, Google admits they've now built a purely commercial model that delivers listings ranked by bid price, the site continues. Google Shopping is nothing more than a list of targeted ads that unsuspecting customers assume are search results. They call these Product Listing Ads a truly great search.
Yikes. ...

Microsoft Gets Aggressive in Fight Against I stopped using Google when I noticed that ads for products I had Googled started appearing in similar websites. e.g. an ad for a touchpad when I visited PC Magazine.
I'm Bing only now, uninstalled Chrome too mostly because IE10 on Win8 is faster, but the ad thing is another reason.

In the old days they would return numerous pages of direct links to stores. Now you might get half a page of links to other searches all bunched together, with very little variety. Been Binging along nicely for the past year or so with lots of returns and much better selection. This was some low hanging fruit for MicroSoft. |

[Info] New Microsoft ad Scroogles on the Surface quote: n e w s . c n e t . c o m New Microsoft ad Scroogles on the Surface
You didn't think Redmond would just have a Scroogling Web site, did you? No, it's taking the fight against Google to short-form film. And it's selling the Surface at the same time.
...
Here we have a couple in the kitchen, a scenario that leads quite beautifully into the concept of Google cooking your shopping searches.
...
While I am always an admirer of bravado, I feel bound to point out that Bing isn't entirely innocent of doing, well, the same thing as Google.
Many have whispered that its searches are, at the least, a mix of paid and unpaid results.
Still, why stand in the way of a good brawl?

You actually see ADS? You don't block those? GEEEZZZ....
Just block the ads with the proxomitron or an ad blocker, use Fx with Google Sharing extension so Google cannot track you, you see no ads, you simply get good searches using Google through Google Sharng proxy.

I like this guerrilla marketing. Despite being marketing it is entertaining and has a humorous truth about it. |

If you use Bing, Microsoft tracks everything you do. So, why would you use it? Not sure I know what good it does for Microsoft, Google, or Yahoo! to track me. I buy very little online; mostly esoteric stuff that won't interest 95% of your, "sheeple". I don't go where the crowd goes. In a sense, I "stand out" because I don't do things to blend in.

Re: [Info] Scroogled! Microsoft Gets Aggressive in Fight Against i've all but given up on google.
it's bad enough they list sellers by their payment status, but when they start blocking (firearm related) items i am looking for, that's the last straw.
i'm using bing from here on out........... |

Maybe I'm doing a different search, or maybe its because I don't run any kind of cookie or ad-block software. But, I just opened up google, and typed in "purchase firearms online" and got back 10+ pages of results. The top says "About 7,480,000 results (0.11 seconds) ".
Looks like its working for me.

plencnerbPremium join:2000-09-25 Elgin, IL kudos:2 | Ok. All I did was click on "Shopping" under the search bar, and I got what I'm showing above.
The text at the top says
Shopping About 9,560,000 results
So, if what you are looking for cannot be found in the over 9 million results, what exactly are you looking for? Something that has not been made yet?

Sc0ttKneedraggerPremium join:2000-11-13 Stockholm, NJ 2 edits | yes---now try searching something like "9mm JHP". or ".40 S&W 165gr." both are extremely plentiful and standard----not obscure by ANY means.
........or most real gun parts and ammo. or real firearms.
some reloading supplies and training stuff come up, but the results are MAJORLY suppressed. |
|
plencnerbPremium join:2000-09-25 Elgin, IL kudos:2 | Sorry to take this a bit OT, but maybe you need to change your search.
I did both of the items as you suggested exactly, and got no results.
However, if I changed ".40 S&W 165gr." to be "40 S&W ammo" then I get just over 200 results.
Maybe it is how you are searching that is the problem?
Not saying the problem does not exist, just a suggestion to try is all.
