| Third party routers & internet speed Hello everyone, just a few questions here.
I just signed up for uverse today, and am having it installed in a few days. I own a Asus n56u, which is one of the faster routers available. I would like to continue using it, since I payed good money for it.
Is it possible to still use the n56u while avoinding any problems with the equipment, like the wireless HDTV receivers? Also can this be done in a way that still allows the remote apps on ios devices to work?
Also, I signed up for the 18mbps. I have 2 hdtvs and various devices connected to the network. Is this speed sufficent, or should I upgrade for the extra $10/month?

| Overall my biggest concern is can I use the wireless HDTV receiver that I have coming for my second tv? If not I need to know so i can change my order. |

Uverse maxes out at 24 mbit/s, so your choice of router is really pointless as even my 6 year old wrt54g can more than handle those speeds.
Furthermore, there is no real DMZ function on the gateway so all of your traffic has to pass through the ATT router anyway, so why not just use that built in router? |

Yes you can use the Asus router. No, it won't work with the remote iOS apps unless your a mad networking scientist and can figure out ATT's multicast packet forwarding rules and configure it on your router. The only way to use the iOS devices as TV remotes right now is to have them connected to the ATT routers broadcast. The access point for the tv receivers operates independent of the internet traffic, in the 5Ghz band and won't interfere with any of your internet Wi-Fi, but if you do use the 5Ghz band on your router you might want to manually set the channel so that it doesn't overlap with the receiver AP. Any Wi-Fi analyzing program like netstumbler or inssider can help with that once your installed. |

1 edit | You shouldn't have to manually set the channel as most any router has collision avoidance and will automatically jump to the best channel.
Unless your transferring large files over your lan constantly I would disable the 5Ghz band altogether. |

Won't using a better router speed up device sync amongst the network?
Also, the post above, are you suggesting I leave both the rg active along with my other router? The 5ghz band is ideal since I live in an apt complex. How do I set different channels?
Also will the wireless tv receiver be affected? |

| Setting a manual channel is an especially bad idea in an apartment complex where noise issues change minute to minute.
In a relatively static environment it can be useful.
Your router will automatically give you the best channel. |

So simply connect the router in the dmz+ mode will do the trick?
I will have to leave the gateway router wireless active to use the ios apps correct? If I do this will it cause any interference or detrimental effects?
Also, no conflicts with the wireless tv receiver?
