AXS.tv and HDNet Movies are the only two natively distributed MPEG-2 @ 13+ Mbps ones I can think of.<br><br>Verizon re-encodes some of the MPEG-4 distributed channels to 17 Mbps MPEG-2 though. It's been a while since I've checked but EPIX and ESPN were two examples of this. Pretty wasteful. Will be nice when they can just pass these on through because I doubt the ESPN and EPIX MPEG-4 satellite distribution feeds have bitrates as high as Verizon is re-encoding them to as MPEG-2.]]></description>

Sat subscribers are also far more accustomed to assuming more of the cost of their equipment themselves which facilitated the changeover.<br><br>If you want to talk about falling behind, Comcast in my area wasn't  even doing digital/analog simulcast as late as 2009.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Greg2600 posted : The primary reason is that MPEG-4 is not a huge technology leap/change from what they have now.  It's just a different compression format.  Most of the HD hardware accepts it, much of the HD channels are sent to VZ in it, and it clearly offers savings in QAM space.  Not to mention it doesn't cost them much to do it.]]></description>

So I guess Verizon shouldn't add H2 then because we can just get their stuff for free on the web!<br><br>Just because you can pirate it doesn't make it right, or more convenient, or as good of quality as the HDTV feed.<br><br>Last time I checked not all Playboy or Hustler owned content was available for free in high definition quality on the Internet and most of the stuff that is available freely is made available as a result of copyright infringement. Playboy and Hustler's websites require a paid subscription.]]></description>

But exactly how many new theoretical channels it opens up depends on which ones of these on the list are currently statmuxed to 3:1 or 2:1, how they statmux the mpeg4 versions (4:1 or 5:1?), and whether or not the future channels are mpeg2 or mpeg4.<br><br>The movie channels are 3:1, almost positive of that.<br><br>We could get a bunch of lower-watched mpeg4 channels or a handful of mpeg2 channels, but more likely a mix of both.]]></description>
