Waterproof 50WLED Motion Detect Security Lighting

After a horrendous Sam's Club time-waster on GE Tracking LED securtiy lighting --two of them-- (Which would have been fine if they worked like the sample in the store did, instead of flashing continuously)

I thought I'd post here.... I'm looking for people who are using this product; are happy with it; and would recommend it to others.

Looking for 2 ~50 Watt LED Waterproof Motion Detect Lights.

One to be mounted on garage aimed at driveway and side of house, and other to be mounted on house aimed toward top of driveway and side of garage.... (Not directly across at each other, tripping the Light sensor so one or other would not come on.)
They will be powered from a system that tests it's backup generator once every 2 weeks, so it must automatically reset itself.

I'm looking for an honest 50' or better motion detect range, and even though they will be mounted under the roof eaves, decent waterpoof enclosures.... and good light output.

I've gone to big box stores, but not seen them in operation, just sitting there. I've searched and found many (Primarly China) sites selling these.... But again, just sitting there looking pretty...

I need some real world data, and that's why I post here, for a recommendation from someone who has one, has had it in service for weeks, and is happy with it...

Thanks for your input...

Just my 2-cents here---

From a true security standpoint, motion lights are not the best solution compared to always-on lighting. The overwhelming response from *actual burglars* when questioned about such things is that they avoid well-lit areas at all costs. I have personal experience with that. The motion-sensing version does not provide that initial reaction. and they are often able to be avoided if carefully approached.

That being said, a trip to your area electrical lighting supply house would be in order. Much better quality stuff than Lowes Depot etc, and you can talk to a real-live person which can actually answer questions about your concerns.

But again, keep them on---all the time.

I agree with mattmag on going to an electrical lighting supply house.

I offer this as a thought only....what about a two stage deterrent. What about a dusk to dawn light (possibly bug light) and then adding motion light. With some always on lighting you get some security vs total darkness luring the bad guys in close. With two stage there is an awareness that there is some lighting and the they get the big search lights if they get too close. Just a thought....

Like mattmag says.

I put my outdoor flood lights on a light switch.
Soon I will replace the light switch with a programmable 7-day timer that knows the dusk/dawn time.

Light On = Don't go
Light turning on when already in action = let's hurry up

Don't want that... Want Motion Detect, for driveway & outside of house coverage only.... So when car arrives, part of driveway lights up, as does walk from car to house or garage.

Then you should edit your topic to remove the word "security" and change it to "convenience".

Well they aren't called Convenience lights.

However, that "convenience" is not so convenient.
More often than not, the motion light will activate too late to make the driveway visible while pulling in.

It's not like it should turn on while you're still in the street, then it would be annoying.

I leave my lights on, I can see what I'm driving into.

Put a photocell at the end of the driveway

No, No, No....

Long driveway, only want to have mot det occur at top, by house/garage...

My interest is in the LED Mot Det combinations... One for house, one for garage....

Anyone have one they'd recommend? That was the subject....

Perhaps you should consult an Outdoor lighting consultant or contractor for recommendations.

They are pretty much all crap. The first recommendation I have is to not fixate on an LED fixture. Instead, find a fixture that suits your needs and buy appropriate LED lamps.
Quality lamps will most likely outlive the fixture by years.
I've decided to just start using RAB fixtures from the supply house. I don't feel they are too much better in quality than the crap at Lowe's Depot, but they can't be any worse.
I prefer not to buy MD fixtures online because of their overall poor quality. Buying at a local B&M place gives me somewhere to return them quickly.
These days, pretty much all MD lights behave the same when power is interrupted. They either come on and remain on until the next dusk/dawn trigger, or come on briefly and then go back to normal operation.

I saw one recently at one of the big boxes, don't remember which. It was installed and working. I'll look the next time I'm there -- probably next day or two. I didn't look at anything about them when I saw them last week so don't really have much info at present, except that they were pretty bright.

Thanks for the info... Yes, Many Reviews I've seen have been poor, and that's why I asked for posts from owners.. To contradict this, my neighbors has had multiple Incandescent MD fixtures that have been in service for years, and he states as long as the implemented range of MD is less than the 'claimed' MD Range, it has been quite successful, for years.... His fixtures were Big Box purchases with the Incandescent lamps. So I know these things can work. I'm hopinng to Save Operational costs after the install (New Construction--House is not built yet)..

I'm hoping to Emulate what Neighbor has done: (If the MD Specs at 70' use it at 50') and by using 2 cover a larger area, and save operational $$ by going LED, as opposed to doing Mercury Vapor, Incandescent, or CFL.

But, as others have posted, I'm not finding stellar reviews of any unit, and some of the posts could be installation or operator errors. Since I've read good reviews on items here in the past, I thought I'd ask for your real works experiences.....

So... If anyone has real world experience on them.... Please post..

IMO what you need to do is contact companies experienced in providing what you need. You seem to have very specific requirements that companies providing the service can fulfill.

What are you up to? Do you do this kind of thing frequently?

I think StillLearn See Profile replied to the wrong poster.

I read his(?) post as expanding on yours, wondering what Jan Janowski See Profile is really trying to accomplish.

Don't think that. It's a DYI forum. To *twice* suggest in the same thread that a professional be contacted for yard lights made me think that something unusual was going on. It's not as if Jan was trying to plan DYI surgery.
