Re: [Tampa] Dolby digital through hdmi?

said by BHNtechXpert:

Yep Nayan you are correct. HDMI trumps all when connected however like I said you can continue HDMI to the TV and use the optical out on the TV to your AV setup and it works fine.

That is the setup I have always used. The HDMI on my receiver died so I've been using optical or coax out to the receiver for audio and HDMI to the TV.

You may want to check this too. One of the other av forums I was checking said that a connection from the cable box via hdmi through the television and then optical out from the tv to the surround sound would automatically downgrade the signal to 2.0 because of some international copyright convention the studios imposed to prevent piracy. I haven't even tried it because they all said the if the optical audio is linked directly from the box to the home theater it will solve the problem.
