AV tests with major sites when testing.....

Do these guys use the default settings out of the box? I often wonder about these tests. If they are using default settings. Would results not be better if they maxed the settings out? I am sure it would catch more in their tests?

I cannot answer for the sites that do the testing, but I can tell you that were I doing it, I would leave things as they come. Changing anything would not allow for an equal test between programs.

The vendors specify the settings to the tester at least to some extent. So, you have to carefully read the reports from the testers and see if one AV asked that settings be on "high" for heuristics or "normal", etc. Av-Comparatives discusses this at the site.
