VOIP calls in a virtual machine

Hi there,

Are there any special issues with making VOIP calls from a virtual machine?

Thanks

A little more information would be great. Asterisk? Host OS? Container? KVM?

My PBX runs on a VM, and I do most of my testing on VM's now. There are some special considerations for VM's.

If you're talking about making softphone calls from a virtual machine like Hyper-V on Windows (or VMware, or whatever), then I don't see any particular issues. As long as the VM has internet access and sound access, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

It's difficult to answer, depends on your setup.
You may have some headache to get external hardware attached (if any) to work properly.
If your host system is behind a router you may have known issues with NAT.

Of course solutions exist, but finding & implementing them could take time if you have no previous experience.

You can download the virtual machine already setup and check out.
