[VA] Lag Spikes

Hello,

When I play World of Warcraft today I get a gradual increase of latency. It starts at, what used to be the norm 35 and jumps to 150. After about 5 minutes of play its at 600. At 10 minutes its at 900 and is totally unplayable. Restarting the game brings me back the beginning.

I don't play any other latency required games to test out the problem. Removed the suggested folders from the WoW directory with the same result. I've even disabled the TcpAckFreq and delay to the default windows settings (and restarted).

When I tracert the game server ( Retaliation 63.240.104.93 ) at the time of the lag, the 2nd hop from router 192.168.1.1 to COX private ip 10.14.x.x (gateway) its 1000ms. At the same time if i ping 192.168.100.1 (modem internal) its 7ms.

When I'm not spiking the 10.14.x.x is normal 5-10ms depending.

Told this to the Cox support tech and she said that the modem only has one address the 10.14.x.x, that my router was 74.x.x.x and that my router was Linksys. I tried to explain that the router has 2 ip addresses (at least), one for internal and one for external. Tried to explain that the 74.x.x.x was actually the public address after the 10.14 of the Cox network and that that ip and the router I was using was old information. I use an ASUS now.

She seemed to get defensive stating that what I pay for is currently at 100% and there is nothing wrong, that everything was green. I tried to explain it was every so often that it would spike.

I went to the Speedtest.net site as suggested by the tech:

during lag - 12/2/2012 11:25 PM GMT 70.x.x.x 25.61 Mb/s 4.35 Mb/s 912 ms Washington, DC (BETA) ~ 150 mi

no lag - 12/2/2012 11:07 PM GMT 70.x.x.x 28.05 Mb/s 4.88 Mb/s 18 ms Washington, DC (BETA) ~ 150 mi

Router is an ASUS RT-ac66u
System is: Asus p8z77-vLX | i7-3770k | 16gb | gtx 670.

I hope I can find help here before calling again and asking for a manager or a higher level support tech.

It seems if I trace google the problem clears up. What would cause this?
