enough FUD Karl

The only hoarders were the cable companies that eventually sold to Verizon. Just because company hasn't used the spectrum yet doesn't mean they don't plan too.

For example Verizon plans to start rolling out the spectrum they got from the cable company starting late next year. Why wait? Well A) perhaps they like to finishing rolling out 4G over the 700 MHz spectrum first. B) There are ZERO phones out there than can even use that new spectrum.

Now currently Verizon has for 10 MHz downlink and 10 MHz for uplink for 4G. now if you think you can service 92 million customers with that especially in big cities you lack ANY knowledge of how cellular technology and/or spectrum works.

Verizon will eventually re-farm their 2G and 3G spectrum and so will at&t. That is several years away. No only because it takes time but because also the small % of luddites will bitch to the nearest congressperson if these companies try to makes their 2G flip phones non functional.

Now some will say just build more towers instead. Great then you have the NIMBY people filing lawsuits because that new cell tower will decrease their property values supposedly.

Now unless your willing to go tell the luddites and NIMBY people to go f--k themselves and let these companies advance their technology your opinion is rubbish.

Keep in mind that phones are not the only devices using the old networks. OnStar, wireless security systems, tracking bracelets for criminals/defendants, time servers, etc. All of these devices will have to be upgraded before the old networks can be completely shut down.
