Re: Benefits using a live Linux CD for sensitive files?

If I am not mistaken the fact you already boot windows and have the data on the local storage has already made it vulnerable.

The only true way to be secure with a live CD is to never mount the local storage and only pull the secure data off of removable storage that when done with is locked up in a secure location. As technically anything on the drive is open game if your windows is already compromised.

There's nothing about a file being on a Windows box that makes it already vulnerable. Every OS is pwn-able. It's not impossible to lock a Windows box down to be sufficiently secure in most scenarios.
There may be some benefits to using a live CD in certain scenarios for certain data. However, without knowing what data you are dealing with, how you intend to access it, and who might be trying to improperly access it, it is really impossible to answer scottp99 See Profile's question.
