 | Good free firewall? Is Online Armor a good free firewall? I am hoping to find a good free firewall that will block outgoing apps on my pc attempting to access the net, as well as not report any info out to anyone of what the firewall itself is doing - (e.g. to the vendor, author of the firewall, or some cloud or website or whatever ). Thanks for any help/info. |

3 edits | If u have Windows 7, then that would be ur best bet. Its a bit more "not user" firendly unlike the XP firewall but should be adequate enough for an average user along with a firewall router.
The Win 7 FW is more flexible in the rules creations unlike the XP versions. MS really had improvements on that. The editing of the rules are more "granular" is what i mean. Again...not as user friendly.
By default though, Win 7 FW has all outbound traffic to set as ALLOW. U can also download the Windows 7 FW controller. »www.sphinx-soft.com |

The Windows 7 firewall is quite good, and that and a router is all I use on my main family desktop. I also use a software firewall on a couple of other PC's. Here are some of my favorites, » www.emsisoft.com/en/software/oa/» www.privacyware.com/personal_firewall.htmlIf you use 32 bit, and I don't. I would use Defensewall HIPS without a doubt. But it's not free, but worth every penny. » www.softsphere.com/programs/There's also Comodo which is free, and Za free. Although a lot of users on this site don't like the Comodo company. If you want to keep using the Windows firewall and want more control just add a firewall control module. Here's a thread full of info. » www.wilderssecurity.com/showthre···t=293143-- Desktop Win 7 x64 Emsisoft Anti Malware v7, Laptop Win 7 x64 & Desktop XP Pro Emsisoft Anti Malware v7 & Online Armor Premium v6, Netbook Win 7 Starter and Netbook XP Home Avast 7, MBAM and Hitman Pro used on-demand only. |

Privatefirewall - Incredibly lightweight with small footprint, sophisticated, fast, highly configurable if desired and FREE.
Been using and loving it. |

 | Is there any way to ONLY select the HIPS feature or funtion when installing Privatefirewall?
I run the WIn7 FW, but I dont want to run two firewalls. I just want to try the HIPS feature from the Privatefirewall.
Thx |

Privatefirewall

 | reply to firewalled HIPS != firewall. First one operates at layer 7 (application), while the other operates at layers 3 and 4.
