Re: Latest retina display MacBook Pros w LG screens ghosting

I know a lot of people are reporting LG ghosting issues but I am not seeing it in my LG panel. I tried leaving a finder window in place for a long time then closing it to reveal a grey wallpaper and don't see any residual image. Some claimed it happens after just 30 seconds but I tried it after 5 minutes and nothing. I even tried it after minimizing the dock which is obviously static all the time. Perhaps it comes with age as mine is about a week old. And I double checked and have the LG panel in mine (LP154WT1-SJA1).

Looking at this thread seems to indicate it varies by week of production. Mine is a Week 49 (supposedly late November even though this week is week 49 calendarwise so my panel didn't linger long). While LG users complain of ghosting I see quite a few Samsung users complaining of dead pixels.

It could be a bad batch that some are suffering from. I have a Thinkpad with a 12.5" IPS panel, and there were issues with some people having ghosting too. I never could reproduce it, and it was the same panel. Lenovo eventually acknowledged it and replaced the panels for the affected users.

Good luck to those with the problem getting Apple to admit anything. Of course this is the Tim Cook era...things may be different now. Reading more of the Apple Support thread shows those with ghosting are able to have them replaced by via AppleCare contrary to the article author's experience. But if it is just replaced without another LG panel then what...back you go. The only bright spot is that each repair is under its own warranty so the panel replacement will be covered for 12 months whether the rest of the unit is still covered or not.
