Whats comes to mind is an error. Yep, somebody screwed the pooch. The exact reason, we'll never know.
Years ago having Sprint DSL I got a postcard from Earthlink saying they now offered DSL in my town. I called them, looking for a better deal, and they said, no we don't offer DSL in your town. I asked why did they send out the postcards (I knew of at least 10 other people who had got them). The rep had no idea why they were sent out.
Either that - or they were intending on raising the rates and didn't like the backlash.
Or maybe they had a change of heart.
