The worst is when a large number of people rely on a single manufacturing plant and that plant goes under or pulls out of the area, so there's a town that's grown dependant on that plant, can't survive without it, yet nobody leaves.

You can't leave when you no longer have a source of income and the only thing that made anybody want to go to your community just closed.

A house isn't worth anything if there isn't someone willing to buy it.

True. So what should our society do?

Back in the day, these areas that could no longer sustain themselves became ghost towns and the people moved on.

From Wikipedia:
quote:
A ghost town is an abandoned village, town or city, usually one which contains substantial visible remains. A town often becomes a ghost town because the economic activity that supported it has failed, or...
People in our society are saying that we need to fund these areas and maintain their way of life... but for how long do we keep this up as this won't reactivate a dead area and these people are having children.
