I'm sure the people who live in the Downtown Eastside are thrilled by the news that they live in the fifth best city in the world. Let the debate begin! |

Ottawa is #2 in Canada (after Vancouver) and #14 in the world. I mean, living here is OK, but not "#14 in the world" great. Have you ever been to Ottawa in mid January? |

Yes, and while I was cursing to high heaven about how frigidly cold it was, I was told it was the warmest winter they'd ever had. |

I have some family living in Cloverdale, White Rock and Vancouver. I enjoy visiting, and it is a nice place. But the prices! Even mundane stuff like a 12" sub sandwich is $1.50 more there than Ottawa. Traffic is crazy! My modest house here at $380k costs $750k+ there. I could never afford to live there, even with a hi-tech salary. |

As I understand it it has the highest fitness rate in Canada and the lowest smoking rate. It is a very "outdoors" city. My girlfriend grew up in Montreal and even though her whole family is back there she says she would NEVER live there again. She's an avid bike rider, skier and walker. She loves to garden and most years our crocuses and daffodils have come and gone before any back east are starting to poke their first leaves out of the ground. Of the 36 guys I worked with there were only about 8-9 of us from Vancouver. The rest were from the prairies or Ontario. Not one of them has "gone home". There must be something they like. FaxCap |
