Pings should always be lower via fiber.

Are you asking us for websites that YOU can compare or are you asking US to compare fiber pings to Comcast HSI ?

No. This is not about the Verizon product marketed as, "FiOS". Just some local generic FTTP service provider.

And TWC cable Internet, Charter, Cox, among others use pretty much the same system as Comcast. But nobody is calling that system "Xfinity" except Comcast.

To put it in perspective:

AT&T calls their FTTN/FTTH service: "U-verse".
Centurylink calls their IPTV service: "Prism".
Comcast calls their triple play package, "Xfinity".
Verizon calls their FTTH service: "FiOS".

But the underlying media is all copper (FTTH/IPTV/IPDSL/VDSL), coax (DOCSIS 3), or fiber. Don't confuse the marketed brands with the underlying technology/transport media.

What's the logic in that? The latency really comes from the processing time at each hop/router/media converter/whatever, not the time spent in the cable. Signals go thru copper at near the speed of light anyways.

To the OP: I would say go with whoever can get you the best price for whatever service you need. You will probably be better off with the local provider than a big one like Verizon, but thats just my 2c.

In the first place, Qwest is now CenturyLink; just as SBC is now AT&T (though CL bought Qwest, but SBC bought AT&T).

In the second place, I did enumerate CenturyLink "Prism".

In the third place, the only non-Verizon "FiOS" that I know of is Frontier; which got some Verizon "FiOS" markets when they bought Verizon's cast offs. Fairpoint also bought some Verizon cast offs, but I don't know for sure if they got any "FiOS".

In summary, "FiOS" is a Verizon TM marketing term. Calling any FTTH/FTTP network, "FiOS®" is like calling any cola beverage, "Coke®".

Both Fairpoint and Frontier obtained FiOS® markets in their purchases of Verizon's unwanted territories.

Edits to update with new information.

Oooookkkkkaaaayyyy ... whatever; and the Moon is made up of green (as in not aged) cheese, and the Earth is flat as a pancake, and at the center of the U-verse!

When I worked at a certain "fat food" joint, we sold Royal Crown Cola. Coca Cola has secret shoppers who specifically will order, "Coke®". And Lord help us if Coca Cola sent the boss a "cease and desist" letter because we failed to remind a customer that, "We don't serve Coke® here, would you like an RC Cola instead?"

They have a product search. "Fios" returns a "404 Page not found" error.

Your Cisco link describes, "Fiber-Optic Technologies"; but I see no discussion of "FiOS".

All {%Ford Escapes|FiOS% are %cars|fiber-optics%; but not all %cars|fiber-optics% are %Ford Escapades|FiOS%}.

If you call a dog's tail a leg, how many legs will a dog have? Just four; calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg!
