Re: [X1-X2] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

Pretty new to X1 service here (about 2 weeks old). I have a couple issues. My anyroom DVR functionality never seemed to work on the remote boxes up until last night when I did a full reboot of everything (X1 DVR included). I still have two lingering issues though.

1. One of the boxes seems to freeze/lock up at least once a day with the only fix being to reboot unit. This box also does not seem to work/see the Anyroom DVR. Should I just get the box replaced? If so, what are the steps for that? Does it start with a phone call or can I just take it to the local Comcast office to replace?

2. Minor complaint, but on screen caller ID does not seem to work. Is there a trick to getting that working that doesn't involve calling them (I spent an hour on the phone with them on this issue the other day only to be hung up/disconnected with no return call even though they had my number)?

Thanks in advance for help.

I am so happy! So I called Comcast the other day cuz the audio drop out issue was annoying the god damn F outta me!

I got through to a retentions specialist and explained to her about how its bug with the hardware, the arris boxes dont have the issue, weve still been waiting for a firmware "fix" but havent gotten one yada yada and then she told me the best she could so was schedule an appt and its up to the tech if he/she has one on their truck.

So I said why not and decided to roll the dice and luckily, she could have a tech out like a day later.

So the comcast guy comes out, 15 mins before my 2 hour cutoff and at this point, im already thinking its gonna be bad news for me. So I explain to him whats going on and he says "weird, I wasn't aware of that but let me go check my truck." One of my pet peeves is when I have to tell the Comcast reps about something and they look at me like im smoking crack or something, its as if they dont want to believe anything else and that there are no issues or problems or that im always lying just to make their lives difficult.

Anyways, he comes out and is like "good news I have a box." So he comes in, hooks it up, and we both see the green light come on instead of blue. He's like "dammit i thought this was an Arris, not a Pace." So i'm thinking at this point hes gonna be like "Sorry I tried, guess we dont have any more, I can get your number and maybe I can have my sup call you if we ever get any yada yada" but instead, he whips out his iphone and starts furiously typing away on it. He ends up getting a call 5 mins later and then tells me, "you're in luck, one of my buddies has one, ill be right back."

So he goes to another comcast location or center or whatever across town and then drives back with it, hooks it up, and I am on cloud nine.

I thank him and tell him how much this made my day and that he'd be getting a 5 star rating for sure from me.

So TLDR with all the recent bad publicity regarding Comcast lately and my previous hsitory with them, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday and they totally impressed me and now my sound issues are gone and I have the sexy new Arris X1! WOOT!

I have been using all of them but the remote lock. The next feature when watching on demand works pretty good. I also like the ability to remove last channels one at a time. They are nice and the thing is you don't have to use them if you don't want to.

This issue is driving me batty. I wanted to program a macro in my Harmony remote to fix it, but unfortunately it takes more than 5 button presses.

I still can't believe Comcast hasn't fixed the surround sound audio dropout issue that I posted about back in April of 2013! »[X1] having an annoying problem

...or the issue of the audio mode dropping back to stereo from surround every morning in X1, which started several weeks back

Not consistently (at least in my area), and even when they do it might be 1-2 months after the fact.

Generally they post on your bill channel additions and deletions.

That would be a good thing provided they automatically update it when channels are added/subtracted. Not sure how that currently works with Favorites but since you have to manually set those up I suspect that you'd also have to manually add new ones that are added to your service (which is a real hassle since CC is notoriously bad about communicating such changes, and when you use your Favories Guide view you'll never see those new channels appear, which would then prompt you to add them).

I think I remember seeing or reading that they are going to have a your guide feature that can be set with only the channels you have but it will probably have to be set by hand like favorites which would take some time , but once set it would stay.

Do you think they will ever offer a feature where you can hid the channels you don't watch?

DirecTv has this feature and it was awesome because I could block out all the non-english channels as well as the MTV type of content.

I got that 1.43.0 update a couple of days ago and toyed around with it ,really liked the last channel feature expansion and the trending on twitter.Ididn't try the remote lock but thought it it would be nice couple of grandkids like to play with the mote as they call it.It will be nice when last channel has live picture and when guide has live channel. Was on vacation they had ATT Uverse and they have this feature on their guide and it was nice.Comcast is definitely behind but trying to catch up.The update was gone a day after I got it ,funny it came in the middle of the afternoon. My STB Timestamp has moved to June 24th my xre is back to 1.42.06 6/12.

I got the July update today. Along with the stuff in the list telcodad posted, there is also a new Comcast Labs section under the notifications menu. Let's you turn on and off features Comcast is testing.

Whole Home Scheduling
· For customers with two or more XG1s, it merges recording schedules into a single list of recordings.
· The scheduler assigns recordings to XG1 based on resource availability (tuner and storage).
· The menu options to select the cloud mirror and AR DVR goes away.
· Users will see a new error message when XRE and DVR scheduler are out of sync.

Does this mean you can't have a 2nd independent DVR not connected to the rest of the system anymore?

Ouch? Has the price of an x1 install gone up? I think I remember getting ours for like 30-40 bucks.

Depending on the particular market, the "X1 Platform Upgrade fee" is either $49.99 or $99.99 now:

»Upgrading to Comcast's X1 May Incur $100 Fee for Some

So, curious, should I bother to upgrade?

Is it really worth it?

Two issues:

1. Whenever I turn my system on (I guess the box is never really off?), it can be 2-5 minutes before the Pace X1 DVR responds to any remote commands or the X1 app. The only way I can change a channel when I first turn it on is to use the TV Guide app or Xfinity TV website.

2. My box keeps dropping back to stereo. I have to go into the menu, toggle it to stereo and then back to surround to get surround output again.

The scaled video in mini-guide and the delete prompt are both most welcome. I always forget to delete a scheduled recording, particularly if I had started watching it as it aired.

From the Comcast Support forum »forums.comcast.com/t5/X1/Updates···/2212500 - Updates Coming in July:

quote:
X1 updates coming in July:

[An attached image providing an example of "scaled image" in Mini Guide View]

Whole Home Scheduling
· For customers with two or more XG1s, it merges recording schedules into a single list of recordings.
· The scheduler assigns recordings to XG1 based on resource availability (tuner and storage).
· The menu options to select the cloud mirror and AR DVR goes away.
· Users will see a new error message when XRE and DVR scheduler are out of sync.

Bulk Erase of Recently Deleted Folder
· This feature allows the customer to permanently delete all the recordings in the recently deleted folder.
· Upon selecting the Recently Deleted folder, hit the green D key on your remote, or press the right arrow on your remote and select the X button. Then confirm the deletion.
· Note: Recordings stored on offline devices will not be permanently deleted.

New “Delete Recording” End Card for Easier Deletions
· After a customer finishes watching a DVR asset (playback ends or customer presses “Exit” after it is 85 percent complete) an overlay will appear asking the customer if they want to delete that program.

“Priority Manager” within DVR Now Called “Series Priority”
· Customers should continue to use Series Priority to manage and change the priority of DVR’d programs, in the case of a conflict.

Scaled Video in Mini Guide View
· The mini-Guide now displays along full screen video so it does not block any of the picture.
· This screen now also includes time and temperature.

Cap Gallery Rows and Add View All
· On Demand content gallery rows are capped so a customer is no longer endlessly scrolling through long lists, and then scrolling all the way back to the beginning to select “View All.”
· Gallery Rows are capped at 24 entities and for rows exceeding 24 entities, there is a View All tile at the end of the row.

Music Videos Added to Personality Pages
· An additional gallery row now appears on personality pages for musicians that have assets for music videos and concerts.
· To access them, scroll down the personality page to “Music Videos & Concerts” row.
· Birthplace and birthdate have also been added to personality info.

Favorite Channels Row Added to “For You”
· An additional gallery row now appears under the Saved > For You section, called “Favorite Channels” for additional personalization.
· Hit “OK” on the remote for a list of options, like “Watch,” “Record” or “Channel Info.”

Expanded Last Watched
· The Last Watched row has been expanded for quick access to more of a customer’s recently used content.
1. Press the Last button on the remote,
2. Use the down arrow key to see a row(s) for:
- Last Channels
- Continue Watching
- Recent Applications
· Updates also include being able to delete individual shows.

Always Select First Item in a Folder
· Selecting Episodes from a Series Page will take customer to the Episode Guide and highlight the first item to reduce the number of clicks to content.
· Previously, the focus would be on the folder itself.

I've an installer coming on Friday to install X1 (I've been a triple play customer forever)...
Have a few questions, perhaps I could get some input from the community?

1:
Can anyone fill me in on which specific Hardware Models are better/best (X1 DVR, HD Reciever that has anyroom DVR access?), should I have a choice, in case the installer has selection of mfr/models on the truck.....

-----
2:
Can you guys/gals clear up for me exactly what equipment is Included, at NO CHARGE, with the X1 Package?

---> Includes 1 500GB X1 HD DVR
???? Include at least 1 HD Receiver in addition to the X1 DVR???

(Technically, my current non X1 TV Package includes 2 non DTA sources:
1 HD Receiver (with the HD Service Fee) and, in addition,
1 HD DVR which is included with the DVR service fee

Thanks

You can set it from any of the boxes. You can also set it from your phone or tablet.

This has probably been asked and answered before but I wasn't able to find anything by searching.

If I go with the X1 DVR system and 3 "satellite" boxes in rooms, can I setup a show to record from one of the satellite boxes or do I need to set the recording only from the Main X1 box? I have WOW cable right now and I can tell the system to record any show from the satellite boxes.

I don't think they'll let you order X1 without the XG1 DVR as your first box. Even if you could, there's pretty much no reason to request the HD-only RNG150Ns unless you negotiate a lower monthly rate. Some people are able to negotiate the HD-only boxes to $5/mo while others have been able to get them for free.

Even if I request just HD non-dvr boxes at the time of signup, they'll still give me dvr capable boxes? Will they have dvr functionality disabled at the software level then?
