Ok I have gone over many pages here and cant find any thing about what the pricing will be around for this service ! I spoke with a tech about my Moto box having problems so i asked about X1 and its coming to Denver late june early july but he had no answer on how much it will be but he thinks it will be the same from what i am paying now ? How true Is this ?

Comcast has been a bit coy about the costs. But most people report that there is no extra cost over a normal DVR setup, assuming you're already (or willing to become) a Triple Play customer.

However, it may correlate with those differences in HD capacities.

This is the interesting part, it's too bad we don't have more X1 users posting. It'd be great to have some more data on whether there is a correlation.

I'd love to know how many 500GB units are out in the field versus 1TB.

Also do we know if the 1TB models are what people are now getting currently? Or is it the luck of the draw?

Right of course they do, but it should be multiple suppliers for a blue LED, no? Why the color variation? Unless as I hypothesized Comcast didn't specify LED color in their initial contract with Pace.

The LED is built into the power switch, I thought. Comcast may just not have had a spec specifying the particular illumination color.

I took that post »forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-···7#M74936 as that there may be multiple vendors for the power button/LED, not that of the XG1 box itself.

That's an odd variation if it's all coming from one vendor. Why would Pace suddenly get lax on the power LED color? They just suddenly found a good deal on green LEDs for one batch of XG1s? That doesn't seem likely.

It's not unusual for manufacturers to have multiple suppliers for a particular part.

That doesn't seem likely, as usually when a customer goes to order boxes from an ODM, the customer outlines exactly the specifications they want. I suppose it could be that Comcast just didn't specify the color of the LED in their initial contract with Pace and now they have revised their specifications for Pace?

AFAIK Pace is the only vendor currently making an XG1 compatible box. There are supposed to be other vendors making boxes to the RDK specs, but I've only seen other vendors mentioned for some of the other RDK specs such as the Xi3 (IP-only client boxes) and XG5 (whole home media server/gateway).

However given Kara's comments and differences in power LED colors, it sounds like maybe there is a second vendor now shipping an XG1 compliant box. Would love to know what the model/serial info says off the FCC label, so we can figure out if that's true.

Also just noticed there is a user reporting an annoying recording bug that seems to be an outstanding issue with X1 posted about over at the Comcast forums:
»forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-···7#M74891

quote:
I've been working with Comcast engineering/support on this for several weeks. It's the only real problem I have left with the X1. If you set a series recording to New and Repeats and the episode is broadcast multiple times, it seems to pick the time/day it will record randomly - sometimes it is the first time broadcast, sometimes a later time. With the 4 tuners of recording capability, it's less of a problem - i've set more of my recordings to NEW ONLY. However, if you are trying to catch up on older shows, this will be a problem. It does record the program, but not the first chance it can. This is particularly bad for SNL which rebroadcasts an abbreviated version the following week.

There are so many threads about X1 over at the Comcast forums...

Found the source of the quote you posted:

I see you asked Kara about the hard drive size differences, I'll be interested to see her answer.

Nova-
I'm also showing only a 500MB hard drive- but then again, that's all I thought I was getting from the start.

That's strange, because even a note in those "Current Comcast Areas Where DVRs Support External Hard Drives" updates (the latest being: »media2.comcast.net/anon.comcasto···6-13.pdf) states:
quote:
This feature ... is not currently compatible with DVRs on the XFINITY TV X1 platform; that DVR includes a 1TB internal hard drive.
EDIT: I wonder if Pace, with pumping out all these XG1 boxes for Comcast, is running into a parts shortage with 1TB HDs, and is substituting 500GB HDs in some units?

I think they are using multiple manufactures for the box, which might explain the different HD sizes. As said by ComastKara on the official forum (as someone pointed out that some have green power lights and some blue):

said by ComcastKaraT :

Thanks for your question, marcins78.

The color rings are not indicative of version (new or old), and have varied slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. We are standardizing on the blue color as a marketing preference, and are working with all of our suppliers to match this color in future production runs of the existing set-top boxes.

Had Something Odd Happen

So, went to turn on the X1 HD box in the bedroom last night before bed (like falling asleep w/ it on) - and it's as if the box lost all of its authorization info.

Only local channels and local HD's will come in. Tried TBS, nothing, CSN, nothing - ESPN, nothing. Woke up this morning, rebooted - same thing.

My DVR and other HD box are fine. Guess I'll call in a few hours to find out what happened.

**Edit** - CSR this morning had to do a full re-initialize hit to the box (basic refresh wouldn't work). Once this was done - about 20 minutes later - all is well w/ the world again. Robin was fantastic!

I had expected the AnyRoom feature to start making an appearance before next month's Cable Show in D.C.

Indeed. As you just know they'll be showing off multi-room enabled X1 stuff at the show.

Would love a more specific time frame for AnyRoom support, but at least they're admitting it will do it now. For a long time there was total radio silence on the multi-room front.

According to this post »forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-···9#M74555 in the Comcast Support forum, it looks like the X1 has now arrived in the Houston area:

quote:
Houston isn't on that web site and I get my X1 this Friday.

From this post »forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-···1#M74848 today, the X1 is officially available in Houston and the AnyRoom feature should be activated later this year:

The X1 Experience is available in Houston now. That platform is expected to support AnyRoom DVR later this year.

ooh very nice and I bet it's going to be extremely popular. Personally if I could own the X1 gear outright, I'd go for it.

I was out tonight at our local office to swap an SD-DTA f/an HD-DTA (working on a review post of it as we speak) & they had an X1 DVR setup in the waiting area. I was told by the counter person & a tech support phone person in a Chicago call center f/my HD-DTA activation problem, that they are planning on releasing them here in the next couple weeks, WITH the thin-client boxes.

And just like the HD-DTA's...we're getting them BEFORE the Chicago area is getting them - a shock in itself! We NEVER get things down here in Springpatch before Chicago does...

I'd still like to be able to tap into the MoCA network the X1's support.
