Re: [X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

According to this news item on the Light Reading site today, the trial of a new video game service for the X1 platform that was revealed last month (»www.multichannel.com/distributio···m/145172) will be starting in Atlanta:

Comcast Begins EA Games Pilot

quote:
... Light Reading has learned from an unofficial source within Comcast that the pilot is starting in Atlanta. To join the trial, customers must have a new, IP video-enabled X1 settop box and be invited by Comcast to participate.

Well, had it installed yesterday. Took the tech around an hour to setup, mostly due to the two upstairs hd boxes taking a while to provision. Loving it so far. I'm not sure if it's just me but the picture does look slightly clearer.. probably just me though!

I signed up for the "Starter SurePrice Double Play with Blast! Internet" last week which includes the X1 platform and I received the self-install kit today. I was sent two tuners; a Motorolla RNG200N and a standard definition tuner. The second turner was also supposed to be a high definition tuner so I'm heading in tomorrow to exchange it.

I'm curious though, is the RNG200N the latest X1 platform tuner? If there's anything newer, I might as well try to exchange it for a new model while I'm in the service center tomorrow. Currently my non-activated RNG200N does not appear to have the X1 platform so I've yet to play with it. It has some old school guide that looks like 800x600 resolution. When I activate everything tomorrow would the X1 platform get installed?

Thanks!

As others have mentioned, sounds like you were misled, as they aren't doing X1 via self-installs. Sounds like you were sent 2 old i-guide boxes.

You'll most likely need to schedule a tech appointment and hope they'll give you the boxes.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks rej4sl! I'm assuming there is a fee due to the fact a tech has to come out?

Also, is there any increase in the monthly rental fee for the new boxes?

Ah yes you're right. They sent me the wrong boxes. I went in today and spent over an hour waiting while they tried to figure out why my account was setup for self installation, with the old boxes, and on an X1 plan. I ended up leaving with the RNG200N and an HD box for the other room, and 6 months free Starz. They opened up a "ticket" and will contact me later this week to setup an installation for the X1 boxes.

@comcast.net

Oh and it may be worth mentioning for those who are interested in the X1 double play package. According to my local office, the X1 double play is only available online and through retention. They don't even offer it if you walk in. Of course it greatly varies by location. If you don't see it online, maybe retention can make you an offer.

new bugs today. I cannot make or change any recordings. Recordings already scheduled do not appear so in program guide. Everything scheduled is being recorded, but cannot make any new recordings.

just found this X1 Platform Installation Training and other x1 contractor install manuals and video go to »jandlcable.sharepoint.com/Pages/···oom.aspx

also the video that is linked on that website specified that accessing apps depends on the customer having comcast internet installed.
so that means that you do not need double or triple play in order to use x1 dvr

go24go

@comcast.net

Still cannot schedule or change any recordings. Now it is not recording anything at all. It takes a week to get a tech out. What good is a dvr that cannot record anything?

Is that one of those "rhetorical" questions?

Did something get updated last night? Woke up around 2-3am this morning to see Xfinity in big red letters on the tv screen in the bedroom, then loading. Wondering if there's a website we can look at to see what's been updated?

Can't Set New Recordings

I saw someone else mention this - but it's true.

Attempted to set a recording for tonight on my DVR - and it's if i'm not even pushing the button. It's completely ignoring my request.

Wow - this is definitely big time.

**Edit** - So, went and looked on my iPad app - and it is actually showing the program as set to record. So - looks like a break between the UI and the backend.

[X1] Recording Never Shows Up

Mine is a different problem. The recording never shows up, I also cannot delete a scheduled recording, and it is not picking up any of my series recordings. They are replacing the box again next week. Their tech supports are morons, half of them believe the recordings are in the cloud, not on our hard drives. They really need to train their customer service reps.

"Different problem," so I changed the subject. sortofageek See Profile

Re: [X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

Over the last few weeks now my X1 DVR have been more slow and freezing at random times!

Sometimes the X1 works great and others times it really drives me nuts!

More like you need to know that the recording are on the Cloud , Here in denver we had so many EMS alerts that if it was recording to the HD we would have seen a shows cut up in to many pieces but since its on the could we have full shows ! so i think the Tech Support in this case is right !

go24go

@comcast.net

I had a tech verify that the cloud recording will not happen until feb of next year or later. I also had a service rep tell me that if a tier 2 tech did not call you back within 48 hours it means your box is working properly. I have not been able to record anything for a week now.

Re: [X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

Can some one tell me if it's not cloud based how come i don't see my % go down when i delete stuff ? This is why the X1 Box gets a IP Number so it stores it in the cloud !

A I recall it was already talked about that the free space doesn't go down right away. It keeps the deleted recordings around in a Windows Recycle Bin/MacOS Trash Can type of deal.

The x1 does not record to the cloud, The x2 will.

I got my new box today. I can schedule recordings, But my on demand is not working, I cannot update firmware, DVR manager online is not working. The system shows 2 dvr's on my account, but I only have one. Now I get to wait 7 more days before another tech can come out. Why does it take a week for a tech. I pay over 200 a month for a service that never works.

No, for right now that's so it can download the cover art for OnDemand, the guide information, logos, Traffic, Facebook, apps, etc.

Yup unable to tune into certain channels. Tried flipping between the Phillies and Flyers games. Cant tune to TCN HD 846 or TCN SD 8. Tuned into a different channel for a minute in between innings and now can't tune back to the Phillies game! Issue on both the DVR and drone boxes

Had the same problem here in Wilmington. Tried, as S10 mentioned to to turn to TCN HD and CSN HD. Couldn't. Rebooted the DVR then I could. Very strange. Still having trouble setting recordings randomly also via the DVR and also online / iPad app. Not a good build combination right now for sure.

There are numerous postings over on the Comcast Support forum about this issue, and some people have been told it is/was a nationwide issue with the X1 platform: »forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-···3#M85735

One poster reported that "one of our X1 DVR units got a firmware update today to 1.31.10 Build 4816 and is not having the issue. The other X1 DVRs that are on 1.30.08 Build 4722 are the only ones affected at this point."

Comcast's official Twitter guy (Bill) just announced they acknowledged the issues from last night.

*Edit - and he's now getting killed on there as well by other customers*
