Re: [X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers in Philly!

Ha, if they said that to me, I would've told them to cancel my account, then I'll call and sign up for service again.

Reminds me of when I got a new car last year. My old car had XM radio in it, and my new one has Sirius. They're the same company, but when I called and asked to have my account switched to my new car, they told me there would be a $15 "transfer fee." So I told them to just cancel my XM account, and I would hang up and call right back and get a new Sirius account. Well what do you know, the fee was waived.

If you cancel the account you'd have to put the new account under a different name since otherwise you wouldn't be considered a new customer but instead a returning customer.

D'oh! Guess I'll have to get married to be able to use my would-be wife's name to hatch the X1 ruse.

Careful they may look into it and request a marriage certificate lol Anyway I wouldn't worry about it since it should be available to existing customers as well.

Not entirely on topic, but Central PA won't see these until at least Q4 2013. The reason I got was way over my head, but long story short, the systems aren't ready for the X1 yet.

According to this article on the Light Reading Cable site today, it was just a "soft-launch" of the X1 in the Freedom Region last month, and now the formal rollout of it will begin:

Good

Hope to have the X1 in my home by June!

And hopefully most of the annoying bugs will be fixed by then

Hopefully the launch will go well in the Freedom Region. (The Beltway Region - like the Freedom Region - uses a LOT of Motorola gear - both STBs and other, such as CMTS - however, there is also some ARRIS and even some Cisco/S-A and Pace stuff scattered about.)

There's a long article all about the X1 platform and its features on the Philadelphia Business Journal site today:

Yeah, it's a shame 99% of the customer base still isn't allowed to get the box.

Just asked again this past week, still denied. It's a joke to have all of these PR's when they aren't very clear about the fact you can't really get the box.

Wow, Jeep, you're still being denied? I called last night because my double play promotion was coming to an end next month and thought I would upgrade to Triple Play. As the CSR was processing my order I took a shot and asked if I would be eligible for the X1 box. He placed me on hold for a minute to check with his supervisor and when he came back he told me I was able to get it.

You haven't done anything to piss off the gods at Xfinity have you??

S10-
Your upgrade is what got it for you. I can't upgrade any higher than I already am - and they won't give me a box.

Glad you were able to get hooked up.

@comcast.net

The way they did it for me was they send out a tech for an x1 install... but won't apply "any changes" to my account until after it was installed.. No changes were applied... Still paying $140 a month for the triple play +HBO & Showtime and now have 3 X1 box's... The smaller non DVR box's are awful and I'd recommend just getting the DVR replaced until they work everything out.

I'd try and ask in a diffren't way.. The tech said he's been installing them just as fast as their getting them in.

So did you get it without Triple Play?

Still waiting here in the pittsburgh area. At least give my area the new x1 guide although the a30 is an improvement over the a28 it is still I-GUIDE with no MAJOR changes.

Well good news for me I just had the X1 boxes installed!

The Comcast installer was fantastic. She was very nice, quick and explained a few things about the X1 box to me. In my very short time with it so far I like it. The interface is very sharp and modern looking.

There are a few things I am kind of disappointed in.

Some examples

When setting a recording there are only options to start recording no more then 2 minutes before and end recording no more then 5 minutes after. With my old dvr I could set a recording up to 15 minutes before and up to 1 hour after. I hope Comcast plans to add the extra time like the older dvr's.

Also when you scroll all the channels in the guide it goes to the end and does not start over from the begining like you can on the older guide.

Also I thought the remote does not have to be pointed at the dvr box with the X1? Is there a setting or something I need to change?

Also the X1 interface gets a little sluggish at times. Not a lot but every now and then. Like maybe it happens when you scroll to fast.

Other then those small issues which I hope will get better with software updates I like what I see so far
