How's the throughput, and what specific router do you have with Tomato on it?

I was experimenting with this the other day, and the best I could get was a sustained 8-13mbits/sec through OpenVPN on a Netgear WNR3500L(v2) router with TomatoUSB. With no VPN, the same connection does 28mbits/sec.

The WRT54GL only managed 3-4mbits/sec over OpenVPN.

mLord, its most likely due to CPU power of the router itself, it can't handle decrypting & LSO ( if compression is used) fast enough to max out your connection.

I'm using Private Internet Access VPN Service, WRT-DD,OpenVPN flashed Linksys WRT54GS v6.0. I'm using the instructions they gave to me in their forum.

It looks like their VPN service and IP addresses they use are based in the U.S. though.
