| [Tech] Very squeeky front brakes... I have a new/used 07 Grand Cherokee 3.7L v6. During inspection, they replaced the front rotors, and I could tell they were new. Unknown if they replaced the pads at the same time. But...
I do know that they squeek like crazy! I know it's not the rear rotors, because I can pull up on the handbrake gently, and they're silent. Also, I'm one of those grandma drivers -- I'm not a jackrabbit driver that floors it away from stoplights, then stands on the brake like an elephant at the next light.. I drive very gently...
What might be the cause of this? Do OEM / semi-metalic pads have to be matched to a certain type of rotor etc etc? |

You might get lucky with a set of quiet aftermarket pads, but it is a bit like playing Russian roulette.

If you pull the pads, lightly sand them on a flat board and use brake assembly lube on all metal to metal contact surfaces including between the pads and the shims (unless the shims are riveted to the backing) and put it all back together that will 90% of the time fix it.
You will also need to re-burnish the pads.
