peg645 posted : Yikes. Started another thread on Hughesnet's forum. Given the "we're sending out a tech no charge" promise today by CS from Brownsville, because I'm such a good customer. I guessed 'why bother?' since there are no issues when the service is available. Now, based on your experience, I'm right. Was even told they may tell them to put a couple of used modems in the truck, in case my modem isn't working...?!? No one has mentioned at all about the 7000 being forced out. Of course, reportedly was the best of the modems, and won't support Gen4.

Where are all the law suits they keep mentioning? Not that I'm really looking to add that to my daily drama. But this certainly cannot be legal to force a change and/or a new contract. I know Excede is here as well, but could that be jumping from the frying pan into the fire?

peg645 posted : Add me to the list of those disgusted with Hughesnet, after strong support for years...

Have had Hughesnet fairly successfully for most of the past 11 years since I've lived in this house - upstate NY rural location, SW of Albany.
As of Jan 1, my service has been HORRIBLE. I've been on the phone 4 days this week. Played the little reboot/clear cache dance, and even now know enough to do force ranging, which previously cleared up my old occasional issues. 2 calls to techies this week and miracle of miracles, my signal would return. Today can't even begin to get through. 3 phone calls to 3 different departments totaling over a half hour, without one live person.
I did not fall for the Gen4 upgrade, after reading the negative reviews, as frankly I ONLY do business from home for the most part - mostly e-mails, browsing, etc., and when everything slows done past 3pm, I'm pretty much done for the day.
But this week? I am fine at 7am. But the slow down begins at 10:30AM?
My contract expired 3 years ago. Never a late payment. Any thought they are trying to strong arm those who didn't sign up for Gen4?!?
Going to a McDonalds - 15 miles away - for WiFi

Technically they are separate companies; but come on, you're smart enough to know the reality of the situation.

You are talking about logical partnering, benefitting both companies largely owned by one individual. That is vastly different than one company owning another, where the officers of the owning company can and do dictate to the owned company.

You might as well say that HughesNet owns DISH Networks, it would be an extension of the same logic.

There are a huge number of companies in this country that are owned by other companies, and they may form partnerships, get sold off, etc., but they don't necessarily own one another. For example, you would be unlikely to say that Benjamin Moore Paints owns Sees Candies just because Warren Buffett controls both.

Of course sometimes an owner will choose to put one company under another, such as when Rupert Murdoch bought Hughes Electronics from GM. The various Hughes companies were sisters to other elements such as DirecTV and PanamSat, and Murdoch chose to put them all under DirecTV and eventually sell them piece-by-piece. Such actions are public knowledge when the company is publicly traded, so if Charlie ever puts Hughes under DISH it will be widely known.

In the meantime there is a logical synergism between DISH and Hughes, and both would be crazy not to exploit that.
--
Motosat self-pointing dishes: .74 meter G74 on 127W, SL-5 HD DirecTV|Hughes HN7000S|Verizon UMW190 Air Card|1990 Blue Bird Wanderlodge Bus "Blue Thunder"|Author of hnFAP-Alert, PC-OPI and DSSatTool

But yes i understand the procedure of creating programs, but not everything.. You gotta learn C++ and you gotta put different files into different formats blah blah blah and then you test the program (goes the same way with pc games- but differently) the testing could take sometime, depending on where, when, how and what happened.. As a gamer, I know where the game starts to breaking down and then gets to the point where it is completely unplayable, this is the point where your blowing up the game dry (same with software)

I believe I have seen programs break down, its either due to compatibility issues with your computer or issues with your connection, yes if its a program that needs connection but too much lag or not good enough then the program will only keep crashing (this i have seen many times)

I know where you went with what you said but i still very well believe network engineering is an easy job.. My brother works with networking, hes trying to work under Cisco, has a whole bunch of computer books, has his own gaming rig just like mine. He use to run the heck outta Ubuntu when he ran the old slow pc, those were the days, he ran a program called cactus (it monitors everyones bandwidth usage, pc HD usage, CPU and RAM usage- everything) hes one heck of a tech person thats for sure.. Sadly no one will hire simply because you need a colege degree witch costs over thousands of dollars.

I was in school a couple years ago and i traveled to another school and it was a tech school, i had to do some work in that classroom and the classroom was a tech/computer learning for students just like i was.. Guess what they were doing when i was in there? They weren't taking computers apart or learning anything about networking like when my brother was in there at his time.. They were all playing call of duty modern warfare 2, this made me feel as if i went to a pre school wanna bee technical institute.. As for our subject here, well maybe its why i feel the way i feel right now about it, its a very easy going job, nothing too complicated, takes no longer than a day or two.
--
HT1000/ BeamID 32/ Power Max plan/ 4 pcs on a D-Link wired router/ wireless D-Link router with password
Support only the gaming company's that matter the most, pay for something that actually is worth buying or has a good reason for how much it's worth.

Constantly getting crapped on by upper management. Understaffed and underfunded. Penny pinching firms, presumably like HughesNet, don't worry about potential problems until they occur. They don't give their network admins the resources they need to do their work until they have no other choice. Then all the heat goes on the admins and engineers because things are not operating as they should and they don't have the man power to get things done at that instant. There is rarely ever anything simple about problems like this. If there is truly insufficient capacity, sitting on your butt will not resolve the problem.

Often times Network Admins have to be available, whenever. Nights, weekends, holidays. If makes no difference.

I've done all the physical work you mentioned and more. Trust me, just because the work Hughes employees are doing is less physical doesn't make it any easier.
