i would guess during the 3 reboot movies Lex will show up as some politician or billionaire who uses his influence to undermine Superman somehow - but hopefully that will be as far as they use him.

the only problem with super extraterrestrial villains is they tend to create a lot more collateral damage - great for movie making, terrible if you are Superman trying to protect humans from the battle.
