Re: [Internet] Routing to Florida from Detroit to reach West Coa said by HighPing :However, I'm having trouble understanding why when I tracert west coast based ip address my link passes detroit -> florida -> west virgina -> new york then finally to -> san jose Peering. There was a time when SBC customers in Southern California rode SBC transit to San Jose, California (400-600 miles north) to jump on Level 3 transit, which then carried them back to Los Angeles, California (400 miles) before turning east to a Level 3 exit point in Atlanta, Georgia. SBC could have peered directly in Los Angeles, but I am guessing they got a price break to peer all west coast SBC traffic in San Jose.
Of course, it could be a temporary issue, routing around damage, or the like. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
