Re: Path of Exile

Appreciate the tips f0rtys3ven. I got lucky and found a Decoy Totem last night while questing. I just have to level it up now. The only problem I can see with the totem is the time it takes to cast and taunt the mobs.

I actually didn't have a problem with act 2 at all. I have a 56% light resist ring which maxed that resist and was able to take 3 hits easily without dieing, so I didn't have to move all that much on Vaal. I made it to lvl 48 before killing him and moving to act 3. Now I've got to level some as I don't want to even think about Merciless until 55-60 minimum honestly.

I was able to pick up another 36% bow damage in passives last night, so that helped a ton and got me up to 810dps at 48 now. This definitely won't cut it in Merciless but should do fine through act 3 Cruel. Lag killed me a lot last night, but thats going to happen.

What do you think of the bandits in act 2? Way I figure it, killing them for the 3 extra passive points you get would be a much larger pay off in the 90+ levels than taking any of the stats from helping one. I passed over Oak in Cruel even though he gave 18% physical damage buff, mainly cause I got 24% bow damage passive right before getting there, telling me there are better things in the passive tree worth getting the point instead. Opinions?

Also, I forgot to mention one other thing. If you come across any "mana-leech" items, please let me know. I'm looking to buy some quality gear with that stat. I only use a mana-leech gem at the momeny (4.3% from all damage sources, but linked only to Cleave), however, I'm relying a lot on my flasks. With at least 3% mana-leech on rings or gloves, flask usage would be SIGNIFICANTLY decreased (already tried, but had to trade out gear so I lost the mana-leech from items).

And of course, if you need anything, please post and I'll be on the lookout, THANK YOU!!

I prefer straight evasion (Iron Reflexes) or Evasion/Armour.

Currently my biggest item of need is a better 6L (R-R-R-G-G-G) chest. I have a 6S of those colors, with pretty good stats for my character, however, they're only 5-linked and I already wasted over 60 Orbs of Fusing on it (don't want to lose the 5L at the moment, hehe).

My second item of need is a high attack-speed and physical damage sword.

Bear trap is exactly what it sounds like.

You throw it on the ground and it holds the mob in place for 1 sec ish. Culling kills at 15% or something like that. It hits for huge physical damage and scales redic well with levels. Its really nice instead of run and gun. Just throw the trap if it lands throw the rest right on top.
The support totem is preference it takes a few levels to get ok totem life. Its just nice to give them a distraction.

Piety in act 2 cruel is all scary lightning. In Act 3 she will kill you with Ice spears / fire physical hits. Bear trap is really nice here cause you can trap the fire version of her pretty easy and she only has melee attacks in that form.

I haven't been running anything but arrow gems with a few supports. I believe I have a rejuv totem in stash, but haven't gotten a decoy yet. Maybe I can trade for one tonight if I don't have/find one.

I don't even know what bear trap is honestly, but pretty sure I have 1 and will check.

Thanks for the tips.

Appreciate the death list you gave me there. The flicker strikers are what I've had the most trouble with, especially in act 1 ship graveyard (I think?). Then act 1 boss took me awhile. Didn't kill me, but I was using hit-n-run tactics the whole fight. I will probably look at grinding out to 48-50 before really pushing the quests in act 2 then. I think the extra levels plus possibility of the gear I can find or trade for will do me best. I'm in no rush and enjoy the game thoroughly. Besides, I've got my tank maruader to have some facesmash fun with if I get tired of my Ranger.

I have resist rings on, but 2 different elements. I believe 1 is light and other cold, can't remember and I'm at work right now. I won't even think of finishing off act 2 without at least 50% light resist in cruel. That stupid woman 1 shot me in normal, so I know how hard she can be and I can only imagine how much harder she is in cruel and especially merciless.

Thanks for the tips.

Do you run bear trap?

I am running bear trap x2. Eventually it will be bear trap x2 w/ added fire and culling.

Also do you have a bro totem? Its what helps against the teles or ranged bosses. It can be skele + spell totem, ranged attack totem + ice shot, decoy totem, rejuv totem. Basically something else to grab attention in O shit moments. I use decoy totem because its a single gem and its easy to use. Deploy run the other way turn shoot at decoy totem. Recast when it dies. If flickers are killing you turret don't stand too close or they will flicker to you.

Life is the biggest 'my defenses are bad' buffer. Another thing you can do for areas of extreme concern resistance wise is use double resist rings. I think in Cruel I still took the life hit and ran double fire resists to survive LMP dogs.

Scary List
Vaal Smash - 1 Shot
Piety Ice Shot - 2 Shot
Perpetus - Dat bear trap - Dont go top line in City of Sarn
Kole - Lunaris 3 - Unique. You don't have to fight him. Hes brutus on steroids.

THE DISCHARGERS. There is a mob in warehouses that casts flicker strike along with discharge. These are really scary. Sewers have chaos alchemists that are mean. The lightning thorns and arc in battlegrounds is pretty sketchy you will want lightning resists. LMP fireball is really hard hitting carful of that. Again LMP dogs with faster movement can and will chase you down to kill you. Port out and get a new instance.

f0rtys3ven, your opinion please..

My Ranger is 44 now and heavy into bow damage passives. I rarely have any trouble dispatching monsters with all the damage I deal (using lvl 32 unique death bow with almost 800dps), but my problem comes with teleport monsters and bosses with heavy range elemental damage. I'm in act 2 Cruel, and decided to farm a little for a bit before pushing on so I can try and get better resist gear. Have any pointers as to what may be the biggest pain for Act 3 and Merciless?

Also, I use Burning Arrow as my main attack, and my bow makes me shoot 1 extra arrow, so I shoot 2 at a time. My secondary is Split Arrow (up to 7 arrows I think now) with Life Gain on Hit support gem for huge life regen on swarms of monsters. Is Ice Shot far better than Burning Arrow or does it really just come down to playstyle/prefernce?

This is my highest level, and I'm only about 2 weeks old ingame now, so other than my weapon, my gear is extremely lacking. I pretty much using the raw power of my passives to muscle my way through right now, but that is quickly coming to an end. Any pointers other than get resistance? (I know resists from my 10+ years of D2 time)

Thanks

I am 61 now.

Farming felshire.

I am missing a life helm and life gloves. I am also actively looking for a better bow / quiver combo. I basically need more defensive stats on gear. My resits fall in the 50's and I still have resistance passives so thats my biggest priority. Helm and gloves w/ life and good resists. I also need a evasion chest with life and good resists w/ a 5 link.

Pr1mo what kind of gear are you looking for?

I can save some things if you have a good particular list.

All my characters were created on Anarchy, but when it ends later this year, they all get transfered to Standard, so if you'd like to add me for some future gameplay or just chatting, feel free.

Ranger = MasterNoiche

Playing standard from now on. Sick of HC/Onslaught.

My Ice Shot ranger is almost 60 and at 1k dps with Ice Shot - LMP- Weapon ele - Fast attacks - mana leech.

I'm using Bear trap and single Ice shot with weapon ele for bosses. Decoy totem for dungeons. And I am still trying to find a spot for elemental weakness and frostbite depending if I need control vs dmg.

I want to add some DSLR peeps that are playing softcore.
Let me know if you are still active I really want to get into maps at some point. If you have frame issues with Ice Shot I have a LA shadow I want to level as well and a 20ish maurader I want to be EK.

My 66 Duelist is on softcore. I need a little more survivability though for maps. I've ran a couple Level 66 maps (transformed to RAREs) and I was getting beasted for the most part by unique/rare monsters.

I'm still playing the blender build with about 5k DPS and ~8.55 attack speed (dual-wield swords).

Character's name is Shushi_Roll

I've been playing now for about a week. All my characters so far are on Anarchy, but I intend to venture into Onslaught pretty soon. Right now my main is my 37 Ranger, which I really enjoying right now since I bought her an unique 32 bow. At 37, she has 570 dps and 1 shots everything except bosses in act 3 normal.

If anyone wants to play at anytime, look me up. If I'm online, my Ranger's name is MasterNoiche. Hit me up and we'll run together or roll new characters.

Great game!

I started a witch in Anarchy, with ZERO currency, fucking died in Terraces at level 2. DPS was so slow and mana/life wouldn't regen fast enough, I was fighting a boss. Anyway, I'll restart next week. Heading to Vegas on Wednesday through Monday ))

Forgot about the descent race tonight. Ended up starting about 25 minutes in. Went marauder. Died horribly In the 3rd area. Ground slam just doesn't cut it with 1-handers.

Rerolled witch, ended up finishing level 7 for a point, 4,627th place. Witch was much easier, especially after getting freezing pulse from the level 2 end chests. Fireball is also pretty decent prior to that. AoE and not melee = great for these races at least early on. The 4th area was indoors, so it was a bit harder but it still worked pretty well.

One of the nice things about the non-standard leagues in Path of Exile, is you don't lose your characters. There is really no reason not to play a character in one of them unless you really want some items you want stashed away in your standard league stash*. You can also move items from hardcore to standard just by rolling a character, running to Lioneye's Watch, load up then go die.

Hardcore death = moved to standard.
Onslaught death = moved to standard.
Onslaught league ended = moved to hardcore.
Anarchy league ended = moved to standard.
Other race league deaths = moved to standard.
Other race league ended = moved to hardcore (unless stated otherwise).

* The only exceptions to this at the moment, would be anarchy league. A character is trapped in that one currently until it ends.

I haven't done any of the new leagues (anarchy, onslaught) simply because they're temporary (4-months). I like to stick it out in Standard for the moment, and eventually I'll take a gander at HC. These new races though, seem extremely fun on paper, and I can't wait to try them out.

Descent races, sound awesome. Basically, It's Roguelike meets action RPG. You spawn in an area and have to find the entrance to a 15 level dungeon. Once you leave an area you can't go back. At the end of each area you are presented with a choice between two chests which will contain different things. You'll have to choose for example between a life flask and a quicksilver flask. So it comes down to in that case survivability and speed, as you'll also have to decide when to farm or when to go down to the next level (that will be harder).

Another nice change will be that you're not removed from the ladder if you die, so no more having to play super safe if you're ahead near the end. You can keep pushing like crazy without fear of losing your current ranking!

said by »www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/434870 :

Path of Exile's Race Season Three starts next weekend! We've designed a new signature event for this season - the Descent league that PC Gamer announced over the weekend. Today's news post goes into more detail about the development of this league and how it works.

Path of Exile race leagues are short duration events where players compete in a fresh economy to win prizes. With durations ranging from minutes to one week, they allow players to demonstrate mastery of the game. We group them into Seasons and have run two of these Seasons since entering Open Beta in January. For more information, please check out the announcements of Seasons One and Two.

After the last two seasons, we surveyed our racing community and took a lot of feedback on board. During the design of Descent races, we tried to take into account the following pieces of feedback:

Players asked for leagues that didn't filter back into the regular leagues upon death. This would mean that we could potentially change item drop rates and how items are given out. Many players said they felt that the choice between using currency items in the race or keeping them for regular play diminished the fun of a race.
Hardcore racers really loved signature races. Being able to improve on a record throughout the season was very popular.
Players asked for races with different starting locations and area progressions.
To reduce the RNG effects of shops (and attrition strategies related to using waypoints/portals to fill flasks), a common request was disabling town.
Some players wanted difficulty through means other than crazy combinations of league mods.
A frequent request was a steeper level progression so that players were discouraged from just skipping monsters.
Some players asked for no instance management so that the player has to push forward and can't just farm a safe area.

In the first two seasons, players competed by racing through the standard Path of Exile game as quickly as they could, trying to gain more experience than other players. We occasionally added interesting properties (special game modifiers, super fast monsters, random ancestral totems) to these races. These events have been very popular, but when designing Season Three, we wanted to offer an experience that differed from running through the core Path of Exile plot.

Our random level generation system allowed us to easily string together a new set of levels and build a minigame around it - the Descent league. It's an alternate shorter version of Path of Exile designed specifically for our race events.

In a Descent event, you start in the outskirts of the Phrecian Forest and must search out a forgotten cathedral. As you descend into its depths and explore dungeons, caves, ruins and more, you encounter challenging combinations of monsters and bosses from all areas of Path of Exile.

There is no town to return to. There are no waypoints or portals for travel. Players cannot party up with each other - they start out alone and will perish alone. The only way to restore flask charges is to kill monsters or to level up. You can't backtrack to previous areas or re-run an area that you have completed.

At the end of each Descent level is a pair of a special chests. Each contains a different set of predetermined items that help focus your character build in specific ways. The catch is, you can only choose to open one of these chests per level. While almost all of the resultant items are useful, the choices that are made can drastically change how the event is played. For example, the chests at the end of the first level contain a choice of either Life Flasks or Quicksilver Flasks (which increase movement speed when consumed) and Scrolls of Wisdom. As the event is timed, a decision to focus on survivability over racing speed can have large consequences. The predetermined items from chests (and lack of NPC shops) reduce the random variance that players often experience in traditional races.

In Descent leagues, the normal hardcore rules (where hardcore characters just become non-hardcore ones on death) do not apply. Characters and their items are permanently destroyed once a Descent event ends, regardless of whether they survived or died. We wanted to design Descent as a standalone experience where we don't have to worry about items making their way back into the regular Path of Exile economy. This freedom allows us to structure how characters receive items so that there are interesting choices as they progress. We're able to give out complex crafting items at certain levels without it being unfair to players who don't play the Descent events.

Because the goal of Descent isn't to accumulate wealth, we've designed it almost like a traditional single player RPG where the fun is working out what character build for each class stands the best chance of surviving through the difficult content.

Descent events last for one hour each and are the Signature Event of Race Season Three. This means that we'll be running approximately fifty of them over six weeks, spread over a variety of timezones. We'll be keeping track of the players who have reached the highest levels with each character class over the whole season so that we can give them prizes at the end.

Allowing players to replay the same event every few days is really interesting from a game design point of view. We've designed the Descent events so that they're difficult at first but get easier as players work out better strategies. The contents of the special chests are not known in advance, so players can pool their community knowledge to work out which ones are best for their own play styles. We expect that as players work out the best ways to build characters to handle the challenge we've constructed, they'll get deeper and deeper into the cathedral.

Because there's no backtracking or repeating areas in Descent, there are many tough choices when deciding which monsters or bosses to kill on each level. We provide support for skipping areas by having a choice of Quicksilver Flasks early on and by not restricting entry to the next level based on any criteria other than discovering the entrance. The higher levels are very hard and scale up quickly (as well as technically being designated as Cruel and later, Merciless), so you're going to want all the experience you can get from previous levels.

Note that because Descent races are the Signature Events of Season Three, there will be alternate-art Demigod's Stride items given to the top-three characters of each class at the end of the season, based on overall experience. Only the highest result of each character class on an account is compared.

Race Season Three runs from Saturday June 29 (New Zealand Time) for approximately six weeks. We'll be posting a schedule on events within the next few days!
