The router dying may be true, but I think it's orthogonal.

The fact that the OP doesn't even have an eth0 configured means even if the router were working properly, it wouldn't work. So I agree with you.

The OP should provide sudo ifconfig -a output. Sounds like the ethernet card isn't being recognized or the kernel/module support isn't there.

Not to drum the issue into the ground but when people ask for help, they need to provide the data requested.
