Funcom 'Secret World' MMO now F2P!

said by Tom's Hardware :

Funcom's Struggling Secret World MMORPG Now F2P Too

Funcom has introduced a free-to-play option for The Secret World that does not impose limits, similar to Guild Wars 2.

Looks like Funcom is taking the free-to-play route once again, as the company has announced that The Secret World now has a "pay once, play forever" option. Potential players merely need to purchase the game to enjoy everything the MMORPG has to offer. There are no complicated rules or restrictions, the company claims, and there are no rules telling what gamers can and cannot access because they're not forking out a monthly subscription.

What may be a struggling premium/subscription-based MMORPG may become a very popular pay-once/F2P MMORPG. I cannot emphasize enough, this is free-to-play done right, and something SWTOR could learn a thing or two from.

I could love me some contemporary secret society-guns-and-dragons IP, but the subscription was a big turn-off.

It is supposed to have some cutting edge graphics and a new form of FSAA as well. Will add it to my weekend queue!

Well that didn't take long. But now this is interesting. What is it comparable too?

From what I've gathered, the secret societies of Assassin's Creed (those are the 'factions'--Illuminati and some others) with bizarre monsters from a mash-up of Hellboy and the Angel TV show.

I also played the beta, wasn't wowed either. I did like the story and setting and have heard other people really like it. If I had time for it I'd give it another go.

Too many games not enough time. We need to all be stuck in college and be girlfriendless forever to have enough time.

I ran the computer analyzer on their website to see if my computer was up to their standards. Mind you, I have an XFS Black Edition factory overclocked 6870.

It's not a bad game. Turn off for me was the character animation. The cosmetics, sounds/music are amazing. One of the better MMO's on the market if you are sick of elves and run of the mill.

The overall feel of the game is refreshing and different.
