Re: do people still use monowall Last I checked, monowall had better routing performance than pfsense, and it definitely has lower hardware requirements. The mailing list is still active and the lead developer is involved. The latest update to mono was just a few weeks ago, and I believe there is a significantly updated release in the works.
That said, pfsense has many useful features that mono lacks. I use pfsense at home, but then I'm not your typical home user.
