The CAW are crying about how they'll now move engine production to Tonawanda. Maybe they will, but it won't be in the near-term, and New York is still more toxic to this kind of stuff than even McGuinty's Ontario is.

i know engine production isn't moving...i just said that the engine is also built in Lansing, so it is possible that the engines used in the Camaro will use the Lansing built engine, since they are geographically quite close (and may do it for other reasons).

The 3.6 litre V6 makes almost as much horsepower as the 396 Chevy offered in the 69 Camaro...
Interesting...they are offering an Ecotec 2.4L which will be the first ever 4 cylinder Impala since it's inception in 1958... ;-)

Gone posted : Engine production isn't moving. The engines that are made at the St. Catharines plant go to assembly lines across all of North America, including the Malibu and a few others. St. Catharines also makes the high-end V8s.

GM also recently invested a ton of money into that plant to move the transmission line from Windsor to there,.

they also build it in Flint, so it is possible that engine production would be shifted there...not a biggie, since that is kind of GM's new "staple V6", so it will be used in a TON of product.

The 2013 Impala uses the 300 hp 3.6L V6 from the Camaro.

The totally redesigned 2014 version will use same engine with 3 more HP and a 6.8 second 0-60 time.

Yes, you are correct. It was the V8 that was in the 2008 Impala SS... Earlier SS Impalas had the 3.8 with a bit more output...

so old gm built it as a low buck replacement for a V8 in the 60s. they sold the tooling to AMC and eventually bought it back. there were oilpans stamped with the AMC logo into the 90s in 3800 gms

Edit - the 4L was the Cologne. The Windsors were V8s. And the Essex was 3.8L, not 3.5.

That 3L you had in your Taurus wasn't a Vulcan. It would have had to be a Duratec. The Vulcan only had 12 valves, though like GM Ford used that engine from the mid-80s well into the late 2000s because it was a solid beast that worked well. The Vulcan in my Topaz would have only been rated for 140hp, for some reason I always thought it was more. Even the late-2000s Vulcans were only good for a bit more hp than they were 20 years earlier.

155hp...the 3.0L 24V V6 my 2000 Taurus had was rated at 200hp and 200 torques...that is the same hp as this 2008 model 3.8L...that's pretty sad.

the 3.8L only has 200hp??...what are they doing to neuter that engine??...the 3.8L V6 engine Hyundai uses in the Genesis has 348hp (for the coupe, 333hp for the sedan)...i realize the Hyundai unit is DI, but that is usually more about efficiency that actual output...that 3.8L in the Buick should be putting out more than 200hp.

Apparently the engine bay is larger for a reason... The 5.3 litre V8 300hp was an option as well as the 3.6 litre. Actually the 3.6 makes more horsepower then the 3.8 240hp vs 200hp... But the 200hp is more then enough for me...

Yep. I would buy used, something around 5 years old or so. Don't want the dime a dozen 2.8 though, a little underpowered IMO, so the rarer 3.6 would suffice. My great uncle that I bought the Buick from has the 2.8, I wouldn't hesitate in buying a car from him again but like I said I'm just not interested in the 2.8

Yup, awesome motors. The LeSabre that I have has the 3.8 Series II and I've been told by people in the know that if you take care of them they'll go forever.

Concrats on the new Buick Vue. :)

All good things must come to an end though and in a couple years I'll be picking up something else, perhaps a 3.6L Cadillac.

Honda has always had a good reputation when it comes to engines. It seems like when it comes to small engines (lie compressors, electric generators) they are giving Briggs & Stratton some real competition...

The CRV is good. I had one of the first generation. My only complaint was it was under powered, but they have fixed that since then. I had no major problems with the CRV for repairs.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I have a weakness in my heart for GM and Chevy's in particular... One of my earliest recollections is driving to town in my Dad's 1953 Chevrolet Biscayne...

If I had the money I'd love to have a fully restored '53 in my garage. Matter of fact my Corvette and all first generation Corvettes (1953-62) use the same front end (king pins, steering, etc) as the 1949-54 Chevy passenger cars and trucks. In 1955 Chevy switched to ball pin front ends which were not used in Corvettes until the Sting Ray (generation 2 Corvette 1963-67)...

My Dad thinks his next vehicle maybe a Honda CRV. I know a few at work who drive Honda Civics and CRVs. they speak quite well of their reliability...
