Is that modem supplied by WOW or did you buy it? |
|
 | I bought it |
|
 | reply to tweedleyd That's all I needed. Most likely you don't have the correct bin file loaded onto your modem to make it docsis3. docsis 1 can go 30 megs in speed .. but it has trouble when multiple people are on the same node. This is why they made docsis 2.. to help with that bug.
Your modem might still be in docsis 1 mode since it's your modem. WOW only supports specific modems on their list which they made a bin file for. If there's no bin file, your modem uses it's default which might not work.
Call WOW up and see if they have the bin file for your modem. Some techs might say they won't push it out for customer owned modems but call back to get a different tech. That is of course if they even have one made for your modem.
I bought a Cisco CM100 modem a long time ago which I used with WOW. I had the same issues you had. It was fine during the day but once at night, web pages wouldn't load and online gaming was impossible.
I then bought another modem off ebay.. the same model WOW used to use. Scientific Atlanta Webstar DPC2100 v2. I told the guy I changed modems and to push the bin file to it. He paused for a bit (most likely to check and see if he could) and went ahead and did it. It was fine ever since. |

| reply to tweedleyd The SB6120 is 100% a supported modem by WOW. The fact that you're getting the speeds that you pay for during the day at off peak hours leads me to believe that your modem is provisioned correctly and downloading the correct config file from the WOW TFTP server. In each config file, there's a line of code that specifies the specific speed at which the download and upload speeds for your tier are capped, and if your modem is reaching those speeds during the day (at all), then you most likely have the correct config file for your tier. The main difference between the DOCSIS x.0's is the amount of channels bonded... in simple terms... the more channels, the higher possible speeds available. Your modem is DOCSIS 3.0 compatible so IMHO that shouldn't be a problem. To me, it sounds as though your particular node may have an excessive amount of traffic/ subscribers online around peak usage hours (the 7-930 you talked about in the post) ... which would explain the drop in speed during during those times. Could you maybe post a few speed tests, both during off hours when you're getting your advertised speeds, and during the peak hours when the speed drops so we could further help you? Also, signal issues can degrade the quality of your service, although that doesn't sound like the issue here. Could you post your signal levels, as well as the amount of channels bonded? These can all be found at »192.168.100.1 |
|
 | Just call to get the correct bin file downloaded to your modem. You will need to tell them your modem model and that you own the modem. |

| Your signal looks fine at both times, and your modem is bonding 4 channels down which is the max that the SB6120 can do. From what we're able to see, nothing appears to have changed between those times on your end. At this point there's not much else you can do to eliminate any causes outside the cable network, I'd shoot WOW_Dan an IM asking for some help, or just give support a call and explain the situation. |

| You have a ton of errors. And the fact that they are not spread out evenly across the channels indicates an issue. Could be cabling in your home, on wows end, or maybe your modem is starting to go. Given those error numbers though, you need a tech out. |

2 edits | The uncorrectable are the ones that would effect the service and they don't appear to have changed drastically between the the two different snapshots he posted. What do your total uncorrected look like today OP? The modem's going through thousands of codewords per second... so the 650 figures he's showing wouldn't cause the service issue he's having as it's fairly low. It also greatly depends on how long that modem has been online since a reboot. Idk IMHO, those levels shouldn't cause the issues the OP is having... some modems will log 1k uncorrectable's just upon boot so 650 seems pretty low. 650 out of 27 billion total processed. |

 | reply to AlexE4 It doesn't matter if they corrected, that still makes the modem work harder. They are also uneven. The errors not being spread fairly even across the channels hints at possibly certain frequencies being messed up, either his cabling. Or interference somewhere. Maybe those times relate to a neighbor using a device back feeding into the system at a certain frequency. Maybe, just an example, and that is unlikely.
Pay attention to those errors, see if they rise all the time, or stay the same all day, then increase during those times. When those errors occur matter. If you have under 1% errors all day, then jump to a 50% error rate at those times it could help explain.
For reference here is mine Signal Stats (Codewords) Bonding Channel Value Channel ID 1 2 4 6 Total Unerrored Codewords 34222549520 34222549580 34222549495 34222549705 Total Correctable Codewords 14 14 103 0 Total Uncorrectable Codewords 650 650 651 526
Even though yours are being corrected for the most part, that's still too many. |
