| [Classes] [HUNTER] The Winners Circle: A Gentlemens Club Hello fellow Hunters. I think we should all meet here to discuss our various triumphs while smoking pipes and sipping brandy with large animal heads mounted on the wall in big leather chairs.
Right!? Cheerio than, lets get our jollies on.
Currently, I am leveling a Marksman hunter. Im not sure where this compares to BM and SV in terms of output, but I like it a lot for PvP, which is what I will be focusing on once I hit 90 (22 levels to go!)
Im curious what talents you all have chosen. Currently, I have:
Posthaste Silencing Shot Spirit Bond Thrill of the Hunt
Silencing shot is great in PvP, shutting down heals for a short time or preventing a pally from bubbling when you anticipate it coming. Wyrven sting seems like it would be good, but you would need a lot of coordination in order to prevent the sleep from being broken.
Spiritbond I chose for the increased regen while questing, and its not terirble in PvP, but I think Exhilaration or Aspect of the Iron hawk will eventually be the better choice.
For my final choice, I took Thrill of the Hunt. Let me tell you, that talent is ridiculous right now in PvP. I basically get unlimited Arcane Shots, and thats really all I do right now unless Chim shot is off CD.
PvE-wise, I havent downloaded recount yet, but when people post DPS numbers at the end of fights, I am generally holding my own with people of similiar level, which is pretty good considering I am using cloth BoAs for my chest and shoulders and I do not have a BoA weapon. I generally fall in the area of 3rd or so on DPS, only a few % points behind the the top DPSer.
I have been doing some research and found that we need to achieve 2550 expertise (except for trolls and dwarves; 2210) and hit (except for draenei; 2210) in order to reach cap.
How fair the rest of you chaps? -- Jobbie told me to keep my signature the same. This is me rebelling. |

1 edit | CHEERIO, yourself. Used to run as Marksman in Cata, tried out Survival for a bit near the end of Cata. Running as Beast Mastery since MoP dropped. For talents:
Level 15 Talents: took the one that gives the speed boost after disengaging, I believe that's Posthaste.
Level 30 Talents: Wyvern Sting. Very good silence/CC for both PvE and PvP.
Level 45 Talents: Aspect of the Iron Hawk = +10% attack power and 15% damage reduction. Hard to beat.
Level 60 Talents: Dire Beast. Love me some Dire Beast. Swimming in focus for more Kill Commands, Bestial Wrath, Arcane Shots, etc.
Level 75 Talents: Lynx Rush. Nice damage boost, just have to be careful when using it in a crowd. Not really a problem during dungeon/raid content, can be a problem if you're solo questing and your pet drags in some mobs you wanted left alone.
Level 90 Talents: Barrage. Considering giving Glaive Toss a try, though. Not very keen on Powershot, as I'm not a huge fan of skills with long hardcast times.
EDIT - just saw your comment about using cloth BoA's in a couple of slots. As a hunter, once you hit L50 and get mail specialization, you get a SIGNIFICANT boost (5%) to agility by wearing mail armor in all slots. I would really recommend switching to mail armor ASAP; ideally you would get +agility mail BoA's to replace the cloth BoA's you're currently using, that way you won't lose the +experience bonuses. |

| Are you doing any pvping right now? Yea, the agi boost from all mail is nice, but I'm always top 3 in bgs and questing is a breeze. The XP boost is waaaay more valuable right now than a little more damage that I do not need. -- Jobbie told me to keep my signature the same. This is me rebelling. |

| reply to Savious Your Marks damage will slowly decline the higher level you get. Surv is pretty much garbage for pvp. I'm BM and I usually top damage in BG's. Lynx Rush is horrible. I use Blink strike and have seen crits upwards of 125k on people in pvp gear. Down right nasty shiz there. Dire beast is probably better for marks and not BM if you are aiming in a BG solo setting. Arena it would probably be better. I don't take Posthaste due to running with a kitty druid and getting dash with symbiosis. Aspect of the Iron Hawk isn't as great as you think. Just on what I use though. |
|
 | reply to Caelharrad All you're really gaining out of Iron Hawk is the 15% damage reduction.
For PvP, I'd probably pick Glaive Toss, for the movement reduction. While you can Barrage while moving, it's still channeled. there's also the fact that Glaive Toss doesn't require a ranged weapon to be equipped, unlike Powershot and Barrage. So if you happen to get disarmed, you can still do damage and slow down your attacker. -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. No regrets. |

 | reply to Savious Since where all here together sippin brandy lets discuss some hunter macros. I recently set up some on my 87 hunter and would like to compare, I wont be able to type the exact macro being at work and all but can repost when i get home if you want.
Disengage/Aspect of the Cheetah: Great for getting away and staying away from your pvp foe's, you can add /cast Concussive Shot to this but since i hit them up with the net when i disengage it would be a waste for me. you only need to hit the button once to do both (or all 3 if you add concussive shot)
#showtooltips /cast Disengage /cast Aspect of the Cheetah
Serpent Sting/Cobra Shot: Will need to be at home for this one but might go something like this:
#showtooltips /castsequence [mod]Focus Fire;reset=target Serpent Sting,null /castsequence !Cobra Shot /script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
i know i had to play with this one alot so i will check when i get home how i ended up doing it but i want to cast cobra shot after serpent sting was applied.
Hunters Mark/Pet Attack: your basic attack macro - you can add a /use trinket 13(14) or /cast !Auto Shot to this but i like trinkets with passive abilities and i dont want to start my attack until the pet is already at the feet of my enemy
#showtooltips /petattack /cast Hunters Mark
Rapid Fire/Readiness: it will cast rapid fire first, then readiness with one button press but you can pop it again after your first rapid fire wears off
#showtooltips /cast Rapid Fire /cast Readiness
what are some of your tricks of the trade? |

Scatter Shot/Wyvern Sting:
puts my crowd control shots in one button
#showtooltips /castsequance reset=30 Scatter Shot, Wyvern Sting |

Did some playing around this last week; swapped out wyvern sting for silencing shot, swapped Lynx Rush for Blink Strike, and swapped Barrage for Glaive Toss. Liking the difference so far, a small but noticeable boost in DPS. Currently sitting at ilvl 368, sporting about 5-6 pieces from MSV, 1 valor piece, and mostly justice gear filling out the other spots. Looking forward to getting ilvl 370 and trying out HoF and ToES. |

 | reply to Savious i adjusted my serpent sting/cobra shot macro some fellow hunters
#showtooltips /castsequence reset=target/15 Serpent Sting,null /cast sequence Cobra Shot /script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
since i cant macro it to re shoot a serpent sting after the dot falls off i tried to make a number that is the average time my stings stays on the target...the 15 may need to be 17 or a little higher depending on your rotation but the 15 seconds "macro time" doesnt seem to line up with 15 sec of "active ability time", not sure why? i will play with it more but initially the serpent sting and macro were not lining up time wise when i had it at 20 and would shot atleast 3 cobra shots...i had about a 5 sec down time so i lowered it to 15, still shot a few cobras and it lined up alot better |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico kudos:1 | My serpent sting macro has serpent sting plus the use of both trinkets I also have the trinkets on my bars to check the timers.
It works really well. -- Judge a man by the trials of his shield, not the empty reaping of his sword. |

 | reply to Savious I haven't tried marks for pvp yet but I was in a AV with a decked out arena hunter and he was BM and wrecking everyone with ease, fast. |

 | reply to Savious ding'd 90 last night on my hunter...finally lol got the 2 pvp trinkets and i guess i will wait for 5.2 for the dreadful gear since it will become craft able and my DK is a BS. Hunter is a JC and i leveled as SV but thinking for PvP (which is all this toon will do) i need to rethink my spec. not sure yet since i love SV and never been big on depending on the pet to do my work...everyone says BM is great but im just not sure atm |

There are a few cases where Marks can be used typically with a rogue. It's gimmicky and the entire idea is wrapped around the rogue giving the Huntard TotT just before Powershot while the target is in a smoke.
Most of your macros are wacky and a crutch more than a help.
Stay away from cast sequence macros if you're at all interested in PvP. Readiness for example will reset scatter but your macro won't let you use it for another 30 seconds.
Your readiness macro is the right idea, but if you go BM be sure to add Beastial Wrath, and Exhilarate to it.
As someone else addressed. You're best bet is giving of Wyvern Sting for Silencing shot (2 second blanket silence... this is HUGE) and you still have Scatter>Trap, and grab Blink Strike + Glaive Toss. |

BM is nice for PvP for the stun from intimidation, and the potential of having an unkillable pet during Bestial Wrath (when glyphed). -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. No regrets. |
