Anonymous posted : Hmm hate to burst your bubble but what MediacomChad does is not common practice. They do a great job but their primary purpose is PR IMHO. I have seen calls escalated all the way up and a brand new DCT is reserved for a specific customer. Mediacom has never taken requests for specific DCTs and probably never will.

In fact they are in the process of shutting down local warehouse in Des Moines so we will no longer be able to TRY to get equipment any day of the week.
--
I speak for myself, not my employer.

MediacomChad posted : Hello Greg L,

As hdtv00 stated, you will need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem in order to get the proper speeds on the Ultra 50 tier. If for any reason you were not provided with the proper modem, I will be happy to look into this and also get a tech out to install the correct modem. I would also like to look at your signal levels to verify I do not see any other issues. Can you send me an IM with your account or phone number?
--
MediacomChad
Mediacom Social Media Relations Team
»mediacomcable.com/CustomerSupport/

hdtv00 posted : Yes you need a new modem to reach your 50M speed. You need one that provides DOCSIS 3.0 ability which the one you have now does not, or least not from the quick search on it's specs.

[IA] Ultra 50 modem type?

anon posted : Hi,

My main question is what modem is normal for Mediacom's Ultra 50 service? I have the RCA DCM425 and everything I can find online says the max speed of the modem is 38mb, which doesn't sound right if my service is supposedly 50mb. Just wondering because speed tests show my speed as around 10-12mb.

Background :

I just moved into a new house in the Des Moines area. I had Ultra 50 at my old house and it was great. I was getting upwards of 48mb a lot of the time there. For the new house they initially told me that I could only get 15 mb. When the guy called to make the appointment he said, no, I could get up to 105mb, so I said great, I'll do that.

After the installer was here and everything was set up I'm getting maybe 10-12mb and logging into their usage meter service (which I never had at my old place) it tells me I have the Ultra 50. I would be fine with the Ultra 50 if I was actually getting Ultra 50 speeds.

I haven't gotten my first bill yet, so it will be interesting to see how much I'm being charged. As long as I'm not being overcharged, I'm still happy with the service, but I'm a little ticked off that I'm getting 3 different stories from Mediacom.

Thanks for any response!
Greg
