As you can see from the examples, there's differences in tax rates, plus some charge NO tax on satellite service. Not sure what "State Cost Recovery Fee" is.

Here’s my Time Warner and DirecTV statements. I’m not a fan of the way DirecTV itemizes their statements. They charge you the $10 HD Fee and $6 Lease Fee on the primary receiver only to credit them off to make it look like you’re saving money. Generally, here in NY State (surprisingly enough) cable TV, satellite TV and cable broadband are NOT taxed. As you can see I am charged a small tax with DirecTV. That’s because programming related charges are not taxed, but hardware related charges are. It comes from the DVR fee and additional receiver lease fee. The only sales tax on the cable bill pertains to the digital phone service.
