Re: [Speed] Bethlehem slow internet at peak hoursYea 9 times in 10 that's the case. In a few cases we've pulled here form threads and in your case there isn't a capacity bottle neck. IE you shouldn't be seeing a slow down at all. Yet you are your issue is likely the same thing that's affecting Zverina in their thread but I can't be 100% sure yet. We're still investigating this to prove it out. |

Hey Bryan.. am I lumped in with jackal too? or is mine a different problem? |
Did a little testing today. 5:00pm speeds from 20 ranging up to 55 (heaving downloading) 5:45pm speeds went down to constant 20s (heavy downloading) 10:00pm, speed test shows mid 40s.
So it is all over the place. Nothing solid yet. |

Re: [Speed] Bethlehem slow internet at peak hoursI have the exact same thing with the speeds as jackal.. just tested today and yesterday again.. with the exception.. sometime i have 2-3 mbps |
Stever, Work was completed yesterday morning you should be in a much happier place. |
It seems to be working a little better.. but i'm still only getting around 20 to 30 mbps and this is at noon.. I'll check later and see what i'm getting during the peek hours.. It seems the speed starts out slow for a while and then gets faster in 15 second intervals |

this is really weird.. I just did a speedtest at speedtest.net using a different server.. I used redbank nj and was able to get 70mbps but with 25ms ping.. at 6pm using the default one it is 5 ms ping but only get 14 mbps.. when i use the rcn speedtest i only get 19.. maybe there are some wires out or something.. I don't know |
Yea I can explain that.. gonna post about it here in a little bit in it's own thread |
Doesn't look like anything is resolved yet. Still having speeds down under 20Mb/s to high 20Mb/s after 4pm. |

The speeds are still slow on the rcn speedtest site.. never get above 35 even during off peak hours |
Looks like it is time to call customer service and get a credit put on my bill for the month. I've done it before. |

Now I have an RCN tech coming out this Sat to check everything out because the person I spoke to on the phone wants them to check my hardware.
1/21/13 67Mb/down at 10:40AM. 37Mb/down at 3:00PM.
1/22 77Mb/down at 6:45AM 76Mb/down at 7:15AM 41Mb/down at 5:00pm
I canceled my tech appointment because it is obviously not my hardware inside the house that is the issue. |

its 4:50 pm, and I am only getting 20 mbps.. and its not a constant 20.. i can't even watch a youtube video or a netflix show without it stuttering, let alone do anything at the same time with a laptop, I got the 75mbps for a reason. |

this is so weird.. I just checked my speed on the xfinity speedtest website and i am getting 70mbps at 5:45 pm.. why is it that my speeds are high on that website, but not on speedtest.net or the rcn speedtest site? |

I'm having the same issue, and customer service scheduled a tech. But could see my levels were good. 25M late late (2-4AM ), but last evening it was 0.71M and drop packets everywhere.
Should I just cancel the tech? This is clearly not my equipment if it works off peak times.
Is there any status on RCN engineering or do we need to seek credits? |

i am only getting 5 mbps right now.. it is 6:40 pm |

try doing a speedtest early in the morning when you wake up. I just did another one at 7:15am and got 76.8Mb/s down. when i get home it will be horrible no doubt. |

Good morning Guys, So I know I kind of went MIA but trust me I didnt abandon you Ive actually been slammed going through several things. So where are we at, first I have to offer a little bit of history. When this thread started and we were working on it we had a few things that needed to be fixed its normal fair usage changes and coming into January our traffic shot up like crazy. We actually ran into a few problems here one being that one of our aggregation routers was capping traffic at ~60-70% of capacity arbitrarily and we had to work with the hardware vendor to get a work-around. It took some work to find that one because well there wasnt anything obvious to indicate the problem. We found this after walking from point to point to point. After that was resolved another problem was discovered in the switching network that goes out to the individual hub sites, where they were literally dropping random segments of traffic unknown to us. Again we had to take this back to the vendor and get their input because this shouldnt have been happening. This was resolved and Tested out to Easton, PA and then later rolled out to all switches in the network that are serving the cablemodem service. What do you suppose happens when we found two arbitrary bottlenecks and corrected that problem? You guessed it; we jumped traffic on the RF segment all the sudden throwing us into a path of resolution. So what does all this mean? Stearweaver: Im waiting to hear back from the PA guys on them literally splicing the fiber in the field and installing a new node. As soon as they can split this you should see a marked improvement. Jackal: Out in your area yesterday afternoon I was able to with the help of the PA headend department get 4 additional downstreams into your area. My hope is that this works to get you back up where you should be and help you out. Shawn: I still have to look into yours I believe you are on the same leg as some of the university dorms so usage in this area tends to be really high. While weve got equipment on order and have been waiting on delivery for a bit now Im trying to see what we can do in the interim. Anyway I wanted to offer a bit of background rather than just jumping back in with some random updates. And to let you know that even when we dont post we do read |

Thanks for the update. I didn't have time to check this thread over the past few days but I will keep an eye out on my speeds. I will report back after some testing. |
