[Cable] Need an F connector attenuator - K/W

Hi all, I just moved my cable modem to a new spot in the house and my downstream signal is up at 16dBmV which is the top end of what my SB6120 spec sheet says is the range. I would like to knock that down to around 12dBmV and was wondering if anyone in the K/W area has an attenuator that Rogers might have "left" you that you don't need and would be willing to part with.

If not would anyone know where I can go buy one?

Thanks
James

What are your line stats over a period of time, do they fluctuate a lot, are you getting frequent disconnects or reboots? An attenuator as sbrook See Profile will tell you may or may not help your particular situation. Theres no point in dropping the RF levels down making your modem work harder to talk to the CMTS just to satisfy a spec range.

I suggest you use the forum search and look up the attenuator threads of which I'm sure there are one or two that clairify this.

Just stick a two-way splitter on the line that you probably have from rogers and a little piece of cable to your modem & terminate the open spiggot on the splitter (or leave it unterminated). This' much easier than trying to track down a 3,6,8 or 10db attenuator (which btw not only decreases the downstream, but increases the upstream equally!). Or, just use it as is like merovingian said and see what happens. It's very unlikely the signal is so high that it will damage your modem, also very unlikely that an rx of 16db will cause problems, as long as that 16db is clean signal.

The Home Hardware (yes!) at College & Spadina in Toronto has them. Bit of trip for you though. Save-and-Replay also has them (closer to you).

Oh and btw, check this out: SB6120 signal logger that oughta help a bit to watch for a day or every so often thru the week to see how your signals are tracking.

My line stats since moving the modem have stayed pritty much Downstream CH 1-4 15-16dBmV and Upstream CH 1-4 28-30dBmV.

I moved the modem to see if taking out as much of the coax in the house would help with the Ranging issues (aborts) I have been seeing at lest once a week since Rogers turned on Upstream bonding. I am hopping that its been a bad peace of cable putting some intermitent noise in the line. My setup now should tell me if the problem is inside my house or outside.

I've had a quick look at this once before but I not sure if it was working right on my Mac. Any tips on using this logger on an iMac would be great.
