Actually, it's more a "market size" issue... there are few WRT400N's around, and a whole damned lot of WRT54G's (and there are a dozen different hardware revs of the 54g...)
DD-WRT is available 'tho the recommended images are rather old. Some digging around their forums may net a better version.
