[Classes] Monk Impressions?

I need people's impression on the Monk Class. Only real draw for me would be to come back to try out the class. PVE or PVP input is great. Thanks.

My monk is level 61 and leveling as a tank at this moment, love the spec a lot so much fun smashing beer kegs on mobs faces, haven't tried the healing or dpsing specs.

Everyone that I know who has played a monk has loved it. Personally I've not played one for any significant extent.

From what I hear, Brewmaster (the tank spec) is the best of the three specs right now (as in the other two (healing and deepz) have been nerfed a little roughly).

Since you start at level 1 it is a bit of a bite when you've been playing max level toons. I'm leveling mine on the side, one or two instances every other week. Running with max heirloom gear and monk XP buff I get about two levels an instance. I don't bother questing as que times are less than 5 minutes. Leveling could be done completely in instances with no problem.

Playing as DPS you cause a lot of damage and have very good survivability.

Can't really say much more because I'm still in the 50s and the game really doesn't start until max level when you have all of your abilities available.

{{ Leveled one to 90. The mobility that the class offers is unlike any other especially in WindWalker (melee dps) spec. Mistweaver (healer) is pretty fun as it can offer you a couple different ways to heal, either straight up healing in the back or "in the thick of it" melee healing. Brewmaster (tank) is pretty fun too at lower levels. I never tanked post level 80 so I didn't experience the stagger/purify.

The only is, I don't play it anymore. Like a week after I hit level cap, I stopped it. That's only due to my percieved requirement to do dailies, maybe.

Monk is a really fun class overall. I havent tried Mistweaver healing yet, but both brewmaster and WW are very good, fun, and viable specs to play. Brewmaster tanking is the most fun I have ever had tanking. You feel so useful and with the new active mitigation tanking model it is very easy to seperate the bad tanks from the good ones. WW DPS is rly fun to play. Only drawback to WW DPS is it doesnt have any niche to fill. It has no cleave or execute so you dont really get to shine on any fights. It still does good DPS and it is good at fast target switches. It also has some of the best sustained AOE in the game. In pvp WW is ok. It has some good surv and control. Just takes some getting used to. They do lack initial burst which can hurt certain comps.

I boosted mine straight to 80, so leveing experiences may vary.

I had leveled my monk with intentions of only healing on it. Did a fair bit of pve and pvp healing on it. The initial monk playstyle was completely over powered. They wee simply untouchable. Currently they are decent, require a more active and structural healing rotation to be optimal. In regards to other healing classes monk are middle of the road atm, but the play style is refreshing and the pvp is pretty fun, albeit they have soem holes for cd's that are being addressed.

Currently though due to some in guild unforseen circumstances I am casually doing monk dps. DPS monks are definitely a different playstyle from my rogue days. Monk scale really hard with gear so aat first it was a bit disheartening seeing my poop dps, but once gear starts rollni in they are legit.

If you enjoy melee then definitely give monk a shot. Monk level extremely fast with their 100% xp buff that you can get daily and every 10 levels that lasts 3 hours? At level 85 you can run the end of time instance and the bronze dragon boss can reset that buff into infinity and itll last all the way to 90

Monk kind of feels like a warrior in Tera with the mobility and plays like a rogue/warrior hybrid. Give it a try 10 day pass it at the very least when you actually have time to play more than an hour a day.

Yeah, I fought the power. I quit raiding and quit the game for a bit, since Thanksgiving. I pop on only for about 30 mins at a time to quest on my 62 warlock.

Notice I haven't been trolling the raid thread with dumb comments lately... well, except for the Arcane mage difficulty "debate."

Rogue warrior hybrid sounds fun. Do they have heals as well? Sorta like a pally?

I like Brewmaster and WW just fine. I am sure Arch can talk to the healing aspect. He does pretty well with it. It is all about the player, as it always is. I feel like a Rogue/Druid/Enhancement Shaman all tied together.

They have heals, but as dps they work a bit differently. They can drop healing spheres, that you would pick up liek a mystic in Tera, they use their chi(think rogue combo points/paladin holypower) to shoot a chi wave(basically prayer of mending that damages enemies and heals friendlies its a talent) and one of their dps abilities expel ahrm, heals and does damage to enemies(more damage the more healing it is capable of so better when you have less health).

I wouldn't call Arch an SME on Mistweaving. He only posts his healing done charts in AV and LFRs. At a glance, one would think, "my oh my, that seafoam green bar is way longer than the other bars on that there Recount he's showing me!" I haven't seen any other posts of Overhealing done (which is just as important as Healing Done) or even chart reports of "Archivis'" healing by spell, who was healed, etc.

Being a good healer isn't only about making a bar bigger but the ability to effectively triage your patients in an optimal healing to mana ratio.

Ok, off the soap box now. Mistweaver, Brewmaster, and Windwalker specs of monk do offer a welcome change from the rest of the arsenal of classes and specs that WoW has to offer but just like any other class/spec, it gets repetitive fast, arguably faster than other classes. The high mobility of the monk is by far the best compared to other classes. If you choose a panda monk, the passive gimmicks of Bouncy (fall damage reduced by half), and Gourmand (double food buffs) should keep you entertained and reconcile any discrepancies in your mind between actually being a panda monk and the Kung Fu Panda.

thanks. What kind of weapons do they use/or can equip? Leather, Cloth? I picture a monk being shirtless.
