 | The whole state of il is out right now. Mediacom amazes me one problem can knock out so many people. Redundant mediacom is not. No one part should kill the whole. |

danawhitakerSpace...The Final FrontierPremium join:2002-03-02 Urbandale, IA | reply to GLIMMER To be fair, I've heard of tech support telling people that and then the person's issues will persist for a day or two and they'll come on here and Chad will say he sees no issues in the area. I don't condone them saying the outage is all of Illinois when it's not, but I imagine they were getting a ton of calls from people in various areas affected by this storm system and it might have just been easier to say that.
One thing I've run into around here is that if power is lost in a certain area nearby, I'm definitely without all service. Perhaps there was a power issue in/around your area that was the root cause of the problem? As of this morning, we still had people around here without power, some for almost 24 hours now. Schools were canceled for the second day in a row. This isn't just some piddly little snowstorm. -- You're watching Sports Night on CSC so stick around... |

 | it is what it is. It could have been a power outage at the headend 15 miles away. Just checked amerens restoration trends and in fact mahomet did lose power last night. I just wish they could tell you that when you call in. Its bad enough to have to use Google Voice to call in since they block local calls when there is an outage. My GV number is an Indiana number. |

Anyway the worst thing I heard about DirecTV was some dude had their service, the dish was on the roof and it got messed up by a storm (shit happens). He called them and they told him he would need to wait till spring! The guy terminated his service and they dinged his credit for not paying ETF. Good thing he was a lawyer. He is now pretty much a Mediacom salesman any new neighbor that moves in he tries to talk out of getting DirecTV. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

I had one flicker. I'd never be able to reach our satellite with a broom, if I had satellite. They have to mount them fairly high on the roofs around here.
I saw the same commercial I referenced earlier, on TV this time. I'm not sure I'd be willing to air that after the outages yesterday |

He called them and they told him he would need to wait till spring! That sounds like a urban myth from a Mediacom employee. As one who has had Mediacom TV, Directv and Dishnetwork over a 17 year period, I can assure you that the satellite companies have more TV channels at a lower cost, better HD picture and reliability that Mediacom and cable companies can only dream of. |

That explains why every time there's lightning at my cousin's house the satellite immediately loses signal (and I experienced this myself numerous times while babysitting their kids, this isn't just second hand), whereas during every thunderstorm in recent memory at my own house (with cable) I've had almost 100% uptime. They've contacted DirecTV numerous times and they've never been able to fix the issue. My neighbors have had similar issues with both satellite companies, though not as consistently. |

 | said by Anonymous:When there is ice on the roof nobody will climb up. I wouldn't do it. Agreed, which is why my Dish is always mounted on a pole in the yard or easily accessible from a 6ft step ladder. My experience from both S.IL (little snow but ice) and N.IL (much snow) locations have found that once the sun comes out the snow or ice is quickly melted.
My 17 year experience with both satellite companies and Comcast and Mediacom in 2 different locations has proved to me that uptime reliability and service with the sat companies is much much better than cable companies. |
