rudun join:2012-12-20 Babylon, NY | [speed/latency] Verizon High Speed Internet 15MBPS extremly slow HI All,
I have Verizon High Speed Internet up to 15MBPS was working fine until about seven days ago. We started getting slow service and speed tests are reporting download speeds of 0.5 to 1.5mbps. I have talked to numerous people in the call center and we have had two techs visit the home. The first one tested the line it was clean and gave us a newer modem. He told us it was probably a bad router in the CO. He was put on hold on Sunday for over an hour before he went to his next job. He called back later and said his boss directly requested us to be switched off that router. After 24 hours, I had no response so called again, so this time they sent another tech last night and he repeated the same process. However this time the person he was talking to in support said that 15mbps is not there best service and temporarily lowered us to 10mbps for 24 hours to see if it makes a difference. It seemed to help but speed tests are showing that we are not getting the correct speed, even though our modem status does.
I have provided some recent test results. I am hoping someone else may have encountered this problem.
Some recent test results. »/testhistory/1852107/29f87
Thanks RK |

DWD @verizon.net | One thing you will need to ask Verizon to test is the Relative Capacity of the Downstream. Basically, this shows how much traffic is on your hub.
I've been having major issues with Verizon, on a 7mbps download speed, but only getting inconsistent speeds from .05 to 3mbps.
Had a tech out today and he had my Relative Capacity Downstream was 88%. Meaning it was very heavy, especially for 10am. He said it should have been around 40-50%. However, did say that Verizon keeps adding new customers and throwing them into slots on the hub and it impacts EVERYONE that is on that hub's download speeds.
Doesn't Charter offer service in your area? |

rudun join:2012-12-20 Babylon, NY | reply to rudun Well the techs have all told me the line is beautiful. That capacity doesn't seem to be an issue. Once i think i just lucked out, that it was a router issue on the CO side, and somehow a level 3 took my call and fixed it within 12hours. I don't know why i feel this is the same issue and have no idea why. I just wish they were more transparent. I have been trying hard to assist them in trouble shooting but its been difficult as they don't seem to take your word for it. Just trying to figure this out. |

i would suggest using this number to get to some not-robot-humans:
1-866-376-3216 [verizon presidential appeals department]
just enter 0 for extension if needed, and it will put you on for the next person. |

rudun join:2012-12-20 Babylon, NY | reply to rudun Thanks, I called presidential appeals. He checked that they had provisioned us correctly for 15 and we were capable. Also noted that the first techs request to move frames at the central office was closed and not completed so he opened a new ticket to do that. I have not yet heard from the NOC as to when that will happen but he said i should receive that call sometime today, but at least i have an extension to call back this time. |

 | reply to rudun I Have same DSL Speed and live in the Babylon area and have the same DSL slow down you are having. My speeds are ranging from 1 Mbps - 1.5 Mbps. Been on with Verizon support for over a week and nothing has fixed the issue. The sent a new Modem, Tech came to the house, same slow speeds. My issue started some time late December 2012.
Has you issue been resolved? please let me know as my next steps is to show Verizon all of these post with people having the same issue in the area. |

tim_k, feel free to chime in here, i think a router switch is needed. |

| reply to rudun Make sure when you use the Looking Glass servers that you set up the Trace to use ICMP data, not UDP. That way your router will actually respond back so you can see the complete trace itself.
Also note that the Juniper ERX is required for the higher speeds. Verizon pushes anyone who is moved above 3Mbps onto them even though the Redbacks could technically support a higher speed with little issue. You just won't be able to put as many customers onto them. |
