Re: [Tampa] Might lose WFLA CH8?

Englewood isn't an area Bright House services. Is this some sort of prank?

Media General is able to keep its stations on Bright House Networks while an agreement is being reached. Bright House Networks has to have their permission to show their programming. It’s up to them to grant or deny it. There is no reason for Media General to interrupt programming to viewers. Our customers’ satisfaction is our ultimate goal and we will work in an expedient manner for them.

You had a legit question. Nothing to be sorry for. What I also have been getting at is I am surprised as big as WTVT that others have not realized they are doing the same thing with the banners and negotiation stories. History shows that this is nothing new and usually has an outstanding chance in being resolved in a way that WTVT, BrightHouse and its customers will be happy with.

To all those people repeatedly posting "the facts" about who is really responsible here I commend their efforts but I believe they're overlooking something. Most people don't care about the "why". All they care about is where they're going to be able to watch WFLA on January 1. If it's not Bright House then it's going to be somewhere else regardless of who is responsible.

People pay a lot already for cable TV and they have busy lives. Therefore they shouldn't have to worry about reading up on all this nonsense. All their favorite channels and favorite shows should be there when they want them because of the service they're paying for. When those things aren't there when they want them they will go somewhere else. It's as simple as that.

Personally I'm not going anywhere because I believe that this is going to be resolved in time. The only way I would consider switching to another provider is if it looks like it's going to be lengthy like what happened with Dish Network and AMC recently. And for the record I would miss more than just WFLA. I love MeTV.

So anyways while I understand what's going on here most people don't and I don't think they deserve to be criticized for it. They shouldn't have to be wasting their time on nonsense like this with the amount of money they dump into it every year.

No disagreements with your sentiments at all. But folks do need to educate themselves enough to know where the real problem lies because they play a key role in stopping it whether they know it or not. What I have posted countless times already are the facts.

The only folks using the "drop" word are Media General and ironic isn't it that it is they who control whether or not WFLA remains on or off. Media General is able to keep its stations on Bright House Networks while an agreement is being reached. Bright House Networks must have their permission to show WFLA programming it's just that simple. It’s up to them to grant or deny it.

So all this anger, frustration and venting really needs to go that direction not here. This is a friendly tech forum where we resolve technical and customer service issues related to Bright House Networks products, services and third party equipment.

What you have seen here is a reaction from the forum regulars who are tired of the trolling and blind posts that serve nothing but to disrupt the friendly nature of our community so don't be upset with them...how would you feel if some stranger came into your community and started causing a ruckus?

I agree with you and completely understand. I haven't read through this entire thread but perhaps somebody should post a direct link to the WFLA page/form that people would need to use to voice their complaints to them? in otherwords make it as easy as possible for people. It still isn't going to matter of course to a lot of people who don't want to be bothered with this but it might help a little unless it's already been done somewhere.

Paulyboy I think it boils down to this...class and professionalism. Everybody knows how to reach WFLA so it serves no purpose for us to link or otherwise direct folks beyond what I've said.

Our purpose here is to help our customers with technical issues that impact their quality of service and to educate them on how they can squeeze every last drop of enjoyment from the products and services we provide and to be there when they need us regardless of time or day.

We want to assure our customers that all parties are working toward an agreement. Should Media General choose to take their programming away from our customers, it is an unnecessary and EXTREME measure. Most channel owners put our mutual customers first and keep their channel on while an agreement is being reached.

Very important...this situation is not unique to us or any other multichannel programming distributor, including satellite and telephone companies. We all go through negotiations with networks when it comes time for contracts to be renewed. Bottom line: Although threats are made, MOST broadcasters in our markets stay on and put our mutual customers first.

I don't want NBC cancelled. There are a lot of shows I watch on Channel 8. I guess I could change to Fios or Direct TV. It seems you could make a deal with them. If you have to drop something, then drop something people don't watch that much, but not a Local Channel.

Please for the post's sake, please read through the entire post before posting. I do not work for BHN so I feel I am free to say what I am about to say. BHN is working on a negotiation as with other channels including another local channel WTVT (for those talking about local channels) and I am confident they will come to a swift and respectable solution. If in the event that after new year's an agreement is not met, history has shown that the channels have a heart and keep their customers in mind by continuing service until an agreement is made. Henceforth, BHN IS NOT DROPPING ANYONE. Unless the other channel does something that is not in BHN's best interest, it will be THE OTHER CHANNELS that would drop BHN. Again, switching providers unless it is OTA or digital rabbit ears is a waste of time because other carriers are going through the same situation as BHN. So in summary, BHN will not be dropping anyone, it is the content owner, other local channels as well as national channels are affected, and switching to another provider would be a waste of time. But please please please read through the entire post before declaring that you will be going to another provider or that BHN should not drop a channel unless you read through the facts and digest it properly. I can understand the frustration but please just stay calm. Everyone will get through this and I am very confident everyone will keep the channels they are worried about until next year until we do this all over again.
