Re: [TWC] Intermittent internet drops in Charlotte. Going crazy

The Zooms seem to be the cheapest of the modems on the approved list.

That's for the 5341J, which is a modem, the 5350 (Gateway) was about 120.

When they push firmware updates everyone gets the same thing based on the model of modem they have. It's not pushed on an individual basis. Here in Charlotte the latest firmware for the 6580 is SBG6580-3.3.1.0-GA-09-058-NOSH. You may see people on the Internet refer to newer firmware but they are comcast customers who had a more recent update to address a Comcast specific problem.

Well, the firmware on the 6580 TWC left with me is actually 3.5.8.2-GA-00-488-NOSH. I am in Charlotte. I am pretty sure that all of their 6580s got upgraded to this firmware 4 months ago.

If I get a new modem tha I purchase, and it happens to have an older firmware, then I believe TWC will push this firmware upgrade to my modem.

If you look around in the forums you will see that some areas that had 3.5.8.2-GA-00-488-NOSH got rolled back to the version I have. Something to do with problems bonding more than 4 channels. I bought my 6580 in September and it been on the same firmware since I have had it. Works perfectly. I see people complaining about 3.5.8.2-GA-00-488-NOSH so be careful what you wish for.

zaxcom the more than 4 channels bonding issue was affecting 4x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems.

I have a SBG6580 and I am running 3.5.8.2 with more than 4 channels so I think you were mistaken on that bug which was only affecting the early models of DOCSIS 3.0 modems on Cisco CMTS's.

Im not mistaken, I am only quoting what others have said in their posts. They may be mistaken, but they said they had issues with 3.5 and that TWC rolled them back at some point after updating to 3.5 and the problems went away. Plus you are in Texas not Charlotte so you may be on very different CMTS equipment and firmware and Charlotte may be on something else. So you are comparing apples to oranges.

Plus you are on an older version of the 6580. You have revision 1 and I am on revision 2. That may affect which version of the firmware you get.

I suspect twc has a little noise on the line and the SB6141 cannot cope.

Yeah even my Zoom is still getting small bursts of Correctable and uncorrectable errors, as was my SB6141, although this modem can handle the fault way better than the SB6141, but something is still there.

Since this thread is about intermittent problems I'm going to throw this out there, just in case anyone else has seen the same behavior. I have a SBG6580 and this has been going on for a couple months, but it's so sporadic and unpredictable I haven't bothered to ask for help.

1) The internet connection drops, for 30 seconds to a minute.
2) I cannot ping the modem's LAN address from a wired connection when this is going on. I've tried different ethernet cables, no luck.
3) If I try to connect to the modem's wifi during these "outages" it will fail to complete a wifi link.
4) The modem logs do not show any issues with sync or anything out of the ordinary after one of these events.
5) The outages still happen if I switch the modem to bridge mode.

Driving me crazy. It's as if the LAN side of the modem intermittently shuts down. I'll probably try getting a modem exchange at some point.
