Re: [WIN7] CAP12 error HELP

There seems to be a persistent 0x80190194 error in the log.

Perhaps try running the System Readiness Tool which you can manually download using the following link:

»support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

At present if any website has an issue with the browser it should let you know.

Thank you auggy. I downloaded the System Readiness Tool. It took about 25 minutes to run and then said "installation complete". I checked the installed updates area and it showed the hotfix was successful.

Should that fix anything to do with CAPI2?

So I will received a message from the browser about the certificate if there is a problem with the site? That's good to know.

Sincerely, Libra

EDIT: I just installed two windows updates and that System Readiness Tool did wonders! It had been painfully slow to install an update recently - now it downloaded and installed immediately and when I rebooted it took 43 seconds to boot up instead of the 92 seconds I was getting after installing the wrong updates.

Thank you so much auggy.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Hopefully that will also help with the CAPI2 errors.

Hi auggy,

I haven't seen CAPI2 mentioned since the 12/15/12 error (so it's not showing any updating of the roots certificate either, unless it doesn't do that often) BUT I just noticed about 50 of these errors (Schannel) in the Windows Logs> System:

I may be wrong but I think this is saying my computer isn't taking those certificate updates. Or is it saying something else?

(Before installing the XPsp3 rootupd.exe I made a restore point. Afterwards I rebooted the computer and used the restore point. I thought System Restore restores system files - I think I caused this problem and thought System Restore would protect me.)
