Ok.
Step one: Visit »
www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
Step two: Provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem.
Now based upon equipment that you have, these are your only options.
Option number one.
#1 Change the WAN Type of connection to a Static IP with-in the same subnet as the modem combo.
#2 While I know what brand and model of router you have, the
Alternate Method that is addressed in »
Linksys FAQ »
How do I access a modem that is connected to the WAN port of a Linksys Router? where it talks about setting a Static IP in the router is true for your router too.
For example with the modem combo at 192.168.1.1 it has the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then your RJ-45 WAN port router can be set to:
IP Address: 192.168.1.5
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
and then you must enter at least one DNS Server (for example 192.168.1.1)
All other settings, you can leave alone.
#3 My Dynex DX-E402, allows me to have the Default Gateway and DNS Servers be left blank - for what you are trying to do.
#4 However I am not sure if your RJ-45 WAN port router allows that or not. It might require that if the WAN is a Static IP: The IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Servers.
#5 Be advised as addressed in that FAQ for the Alternate Method, that
quote:
If a 10 Mbps hub and a second NIC or spare PC is unavailable, then the following configuration changes to the Linksys are required for accessing the modem through the Linksys. Unfortunately, this will cause a loss of Internet access.
and that includes your router (I know for a fact, that is not limited to Linksys only) too.
#6 For your router to change the connection type, by looking at the sample screen shots that are at »
screenshots.portforward. ··· ault.htm and or at »
www.pcwintech.com/screen ··· firmware - I can tell you must go to
Connection Type which is under
Internet WAN#7 For the DNS Settings, if they are not in there, then by the looks of things you must go to
DNS which is under
Internet WAN.
#8 To get back on-line, one must change the setting back to what it was before you setup the Static IP. That includes, telling the router to auto detect the DNS Servers.
***********************
Option number two with requirements and steps.
#1 Your computer must have a wired NIC.
#2 You must know how to setup a Static IP on that wired NIC of that computer.
#3 You must disconnect your computer from the RJ-45 LAN port of the RJ-45 WAN port router.
#4 You must disconnect your RJ-45 WAN port router from the modem combo.
#5 You must set the computer to use a Static IP in the same subnet as the modem combo's LAN IP and set the same subnet mask.
For example with the modem combo at 192.168.1.1 it has the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then your computer can be set to:
IP Address: 192.168.1.5
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0.
All other settings you can leave alone, since the modem combo is in bridge-bridge mode and you can not go on-line anyways.
#6 You must connect your computer's wired NIC to the modem combo.
#7 After you get the data, info requested to get back on-line:
a) Must disconnect computer from the modem combo.
b) You must connect the RJ-45 WAN port router to the modem combo.
c) You must connect your computer to one the RJ-45 LAN ports of the RJ-45 WAN port router.
d) You must either:
#1 Change the Static IP on your computer, add in the Default Gateway LAN IP of the RJ-45 WAN port, add in at least one DNS Server.
OR
#2 Change your computer back to use DHCP.
************
Option number three for getting into the modem combo, maybe.
#1 As addressed in
»
[modem/router] How to access 6100G's interface while connected?Since their RJ-45 WAN router is setup for PPoE and if
b) ..the modem combo LAN IP and their RJ-45 LAN IP are not in the same subnet.
As long as the pppoe connection is down, they can access the modem combo.
By not the same subnet, for example: Modem at 192.168.0.1 and the RJ-45 WAN port router at 192.168.1.1
**
Option number four for getting into the modem combo, maybe.
I point to »
Re: [modem/router] How to access 6100G's interface while connect**
Are options three and four for getting into the modem combo true, you might ask.
I can not tell you it is because:
#1 I am not on PPPoE..
#2 I have never tried (and or) noticed those things.
****
Once in the Modem combo (After you made the choice of how to get access to it).
Visit »
192.168.1.1/ for me and do the following:
#1 If you see a Blue and White Westell page, mouse over
Troubleshooting, go to
DSL, and choose
Transceiver Statistics. Copy and then when on-line Paste the information on that page.
#2 If using the Red and Black Firmware: Go to
System Monitoring > Advanced Monitors > Transceiver Statistics. Copy and then when on-line Paste the information on that page.
#3 Try visiting »
192.168.1.1/transtat.htm which is a direct link to the Stats on older modems.
d) If you need a Username and Password, try the following:
admin/password
admin/password1
admin/admin
admin/admin1
admin/
Serial Number.
By
Serial Number, I don't mean type in the words Serial Number. I mean find and type in the serial number found on the bottom of this router.
