Re: [ALL] Cox Annual Speed Upgrade

Heh I remember when I was young connecting to Prodigy under DOS using a 2400bps modem and a 386/25Mhz w/ 4MB of RAM.

Good god how slow it redrawed stuff, but it was still fun for those days.

I had the exact same setup.

First time I bought something "on-line" was on Prodigy. Sears had put their catalog on Prodigy, so I pre-ordered the TurboGrafx Express handheld.

I fondly remember the time spent on Compuserv using my TI Silent 700 portable terminal (300 baud acoustic couplers) with yards of thermal-roll paper streaming across the floor behind my desk. It was so much better than the days of punching Hollerith cards.

gees I'm old.

You all make me feel young
I started with a 386 intel system and didn't even get internet until AOL around the age of....14 and whatever modem was out back then (I believe the step down from 56k). That was only....16 years ago.

I stepped out of the IRC world fully around a year ago, given it had been a few years before that since I really did anything more than share a few words a week. It just died out and became boring towards the end. Met some crazy people over the years though that originated in IRC.

No speed increase in OKC this morning. Still seeing 32 down, 7 up on speedtest. I am on premier. Website for Oklahoma still shows the old speeds too.

That's finally a little better. Now as long as the upstream speeds hold at 19-20 I'll be happy, but I know that's just with boost, so in the end it's fake.

At least uploading the videos we shoot to Vimeo/YouTube won't be such a headache. Then again, once the "boost" ends it will be back to being a headache and I looking/hoping for an alternative to Cox.

Well as you, and anyone else who use these forum's often should know. Cox doesn't do upgrade's to there entire coverage area at the same time. It's done market by market. As my market did recent ultimate speed upgrades back in november to 100/20, and my market wasn't even the first to see these ultimate upgrades. So I am sure upgrades will spread to more market's including yours, but for an actual time frame, no one knows that till word of changes leak.

I don't know what they're doing if you exceed the cap but I'm hoping we see an increase shortly. It's ridiculous to triple the speeds on ultimate and leave the cap at 400Gb. I would think a lot more people are going to exceed that now.

I have yet to go over my cap, but I have said it on here before. If I ever do go over and cox starts being an ass about it. I will let them know how i feel about the matter. I fully understand enforcing the caps when a customer starts affecting other's in there area. But to just harass a customer for going over the cap limit, is just unacceptable to me from any company.

I called today to change some services around, and they told me that effective midnight tonight, (Las Vegas) will be getting (at ultimate tier) 100mbps. Right now, I'm clocking in at 44.8D 21.4U. Can't wait!

This is proof that Cox is full of crap. I forgot to post this earlier. This is a run I did on speedtest.net back in 2011 at my old place. Cox didn't have as much "cap" control on it's "boost" so boost would shoot it up to 98mbps and after about 20 seconds or so come crashing down to 20. Now *THAT*....was boost. 20-98...now we get 50-60. Should be 50-150 with boost now :/

Let's go picket in front of their corp office

Edit: I just did another speedtest and it showed 3.29mbps for upstream...compared to this morning that showed 19mbps. I did it again and my downstream crashed from 50 to 19mbps and upstream is 1.66mbps.....you have to be kidding.

if you call cox and go to the tech support section and choose internet you will hear a prerecorded message that talks about speed issues valley wide

so it should be fixed shortly

I called Cox at noon. They're sending someone over in the morning to fix the problem. My Ultimate speeds never went up. He said most of the problems they're having today are with the people that have the Ultimate Internet. It sounds like Cox wasn't ready to increase the Ultimate speeds.

That would explain only being able to get 43d 20u.

So it looks like this has started to roll out. Are representatives allowed to talk about the speed increases everywhere now? I'd like to know if Nebraska is going to see any increase from this

Holy crap...come on Orange County...

We're still on 4x1 so we are a long way off from getting an upgrade.
