windows and wep issues

I have a toshiba a25. it will not connect to the wireless network, saying that it needs to have either 5 or 13 ascii chars. or 10 or 26 hexidecimal chars. i KNOW i have the right key, it is taped to the router, which is about ten inches away. it has no issue with no security networks, and the wirless card doesn't support wpa encryption.

If you have a computer connected via Ethernet (or get your laptop to do so), then go to your router's GUI and doublecheck as it may have been changed.

side note: Is your password in ascii (words) or hexadecimal (0-9 and A-F only)?

Windows doesn't respond when connected to the ethernet. Linux does however, and I don't know how to pull up the router's GUI.

Check your NUMLOCK. You might have to try it in both positions.

This drove me crazy for a while until I figured it out.

It is possible that someone had changed the default key? Can you do a factory reset on the router?
