Re: [WIN8] Windows 8 / CD-DVD driver issue I do agree with Shootist  , in the fact that the DVD drive is probably not broken. Since you probably used it to install Windows 8, it had to work at some point to do that! 
If you are able to, I would re-install Windows 8 using the install Media, and see if the problem comes back. If it does, maybe you have a bad install of Windows 8 (bad burn of the ISO to the DVD, scratched DVD, etc).
