Skyrim wont use dedicated gpu, nvidia optimus.

My brother got skyrim today during the steam sale. He has a 650m, but skyrim won't recognize it to use it to play the game. All that is there in the options menu is the hd intel 4000. I tired going in to the nvidia control panel and setting tesv.exe and skyrimlauncher.exe to open with the high performance gpu but that didn't work ether. Any ideas what to do?

Can you disable the intel 4000 in the bios, or at least set the 650m as the primary in it?

I tried disabling the hd 4000 in the device manager, didn't work. bios doesn't appear to have the option, unless I'm just not reading it right which is possible.

I fixed it! I was trying to use an fxaa mod(I just copied my install from my desktop to his laptop so he wouldnt have to download it) and yeah that mod doesnt work with optmus.

That is weird I would guess its and MSI or Ibuypower laptop?

I have an MSI with the same setup (Intel 4000/GForce 675) and the drivers from the disc may be a problem you need to get the ones directly from nvidia and on the control panel you need to choice the nvidia card as the prefered gaming card.

I looked in to it and its an optimus issue, the injector uses a certain dll(or maybe it was ddl I forget) and use of it shuts optimus off.

Sager 11 in with a 650m for the record.

Thanks for the clarification, it makes sense.
