| Does Bell allow Dual Login? Could I connect a Wireless N router to my Sagemcom modem and having both dial into the Bell PPPOEEEEEE system in the same time?
Idea is for Sagemcom to connect to all my light usage wireless g and b. While i'll have a dedicated wireless router for my laptops with N. |

I thought they just changed the policy so you're only allowed ONE session per login (after many complaints of unverified usage)

I just called 310-Surf and they have no idea what double login means... Their scripted answer Sagemcom is equipped with wireless and if range is not good i could get an extender...
Anyone from Bell can help me with this? |

Don't ever call them for technical questions regarding PPPOE, sync rate etc. This is the place for that sort of stuff. |

Interesting, it must be quite a recent change (last few months?). Not long ago 2 or more PPPoE sessions were possible. |

Connect your router to the Sagemcom and just use it wifi, let the Sagemcom handle all the PPPOE and DHCP. |

Instead of speed in half from two logins, If this is being done on 1 physical phone line, won't be able to handle two DSL syncs.
In this scenario, a good option might be to have DSL model to Wireless N Router, and then connecting an additional slower wireless access point to the Wireless N router via the LAN ports to provide wireless G. |

| tried what two computers on the same router dont mean half speed. maybe if your both torrenting or streaming but two ocmputers doesnt mean half speed i have 4 computers onhline and its reasonable with everyone online on a bell 25 connecction |

It will also split your speed in half. Well it doesn't split your speed in half. All it does it that both PPPoE connection shares the bandwidth allocated for the line. Each just uses what is available. |

I'd like to point something else out here that hasn't been mentioned yet.
If you have wireless devices connected to the sagemcom, and also a third party router connected to the sagemcom that is doing a seperate pppoe session with wireless device connected to it, wireless devices connected to the sagemcom wont be able to intereact or 'see' devices connected to the wireless N router.
So if you have a common shared wireless printer or other network appliance that must be shared in the house, and a computer requiring access to said appliance, that/those computer(s) must be connected to the same network that appliance is connecting to.
Also services like windows file sharing, or apple filesharing services wont be available between computers on opposite networks.
Re: the dual pppoe logins....
I'm not certain this is too much of an issue on the same slam. I am 100% positive that Bell CAN tell if the same login is being used on 2 different slams and they can even tell which type of modem is being used there. What I'm not sure of is if they are truely restricting this 'up stream'? As I understand it, the new (old) policy is starting to be enforced as they have found it may be causing issues if the customer has FibeTV. Basically that means it will likely be a blanket enforcement across all internet accounts, not just FibeTV customers.
I only make that last paragraphed statement based on the limited official information I've been given combined with observations I've made during some of my work activities.
If anyone has anything more official or accurate and wish to correct me, please by all means do so.

I was told that if you have your own router and it has the PPPoE settings, the Bell modems would let your router control the Internet "IP" directly. Your modem would not issue the PPPoE request for Internet access.

I jsut had FibeTV/Internet installed this weeked. Currently I only connected my PC to the Sagecom router and disabled wifi. All my other devices are still on my dd-wrt router and connected to ElectronicBox.
I was planning connecting all my devices to the dd-wrt router (using that Wifi) which would be connected to the Sagecom via DHCP
Is there any reason i shouldn't do this? |
