The Ars article is dated Feb 14 2011.

That hasn't stopped the trolls, even in the UK, from running their extortion racket, e.g. from November 15, 2012 Open Rights Group Applies To Defend Citizens Against Copyright Trolls.

There are several other articles on TorrentFreak about copyright trolling in the UK, Canada and elsewhere.

They also have info on how to stop the UK trolls and presumably in Canada: The Speculative Invoicing Handbook - Second Edition

The trolls will continue to try to get money from people outside the court with threats until most people wise up and tell them to get lost. As shown in the article once people refuse to pay the troll closes up shop. Education is your best defense.

The irony, it burns. Feb 14, 2011 is not timely, nor is it relevant.

The key here is the accused mounted a defence, and had to pay for it ( there looks to be two groups represented by two lawyers, so they split the cost ). This would be a defence undertaken AFTER their ISP had given them up, which is where Teksavvy is now.

Actually it's quite relevant and an important victory against the trolls everywhere. Once a court makes a determination regarding an issue the precedent stands until another court over rules it. Doesn't matter how long ago the ruling was made. Canadian and British courts generally follow in each others footsteps.

Of course the trolls will keep trying. That's what parasites do.

In Canada and Britain it's Good guys 1 - Trolls 0......

and that's the UK , um you do realize this is a Canadian forum and Canadian company and Canadian lawsuit?

but yea its winding down everywhere but here...we and our judges should put the hammer down on it right away.

as i said in THIS case i see in my opinion that there is no way a simple ip address can be said to be doing anything commercial as one cant tell how much cash if any is being handed to and from each ip address....thus reasonable doubt on the merits fo the filing are right there....go off refile for non commercial
let everyone of the 2300 get a lawyer and due to law get every single one of the 2300 have them read the charge to you....
and have 2300 lawyers make time to be seen and heard in court.

in class actions most times its a mass a people suiing ONE big bad evil corporation or individual NOT
one big bad evil corporation/company suing 2300 people
you have the right in any court of law to have the charges read to you. and under 7 grand you can get legal aid....my bet is that the time required to get there 100$ for a single movie risk is going to be far greater then they wish to try for.

idea is whomever you do go after better be sharing a lot and get you that max and hope to crap they aren't on welfare or disability

and it IS DISCRIMINATION TO NIT PICK from the list of 2300 to pick on the ones that you can best extort money from...
its kind of the reverse of how discrimination usually works but can in this case be relevant....

these are my opinions and im not a lawyer...
OH and heres something that may interest UK filesharers
